Mes Amis — Restaurant in Maastricht

Mes Amis is halfway through a market cuisine unpretentious restaurant and a fine dining experience with a focus on wine, especially regional one. Settled on two floor it has a pretty cozy atmosphere, tables are not far from each other and everyone is talking and enjoying his time. The staff was very accommodating and is pretty knowledgeable about the local wines. I'd say is by far the most interesting wine tasting experience I had till now in a restaurant in the Netherlands, bringing highlights on the otherwise off the radar Limburgse wine scene. A week ago I was at your Mes amis restaurant. I did expect tasty food and good local wine selection . It turned out to be such a fantastic fine dining experience that I haven't dreamt of! Every dish was like a work of art and the taste was outstandingly good and flavoured. I couldn’t guess whether the wine or the food was honored to be paired with. Great staff, very friendly and they know their local wines. The wines are also ok, they are not top notch globally, but the best you can get in Netherlands. Wine servings are ok, but they won't top up if you finish early. Food is very average. They put too much different flavours on one plate and serve so much you miss all finesse. Maybe my expectations were wrong: I expected fine dining, but got a farmers dinner presented nicely. So all in all; not bad, but not refined.
