Petit Bonheur — Restaurant in Maastricht

The restaurant was inside an hotel and we seat in a covered garden area which was beautiful.

They served a selection of set menu as well as a la carte. My husband and his brother picked from the set menu which had some classic french food. I went for the a la carte menu and was intrigued and impressed by all of them.

My starter had smoked watermelon, seared king prawn and vegetables. Never tried cooked watermelon, but seems like the process intensified the sweetness and the refreshing fragrance of watermelon. They went well with the perfectly seared prawns with nice grill marks and yet still succulent.

The second course was snails, a french classic. The shells seemed abit bit too big of them... we almost had to crack the shell to get some of them out LOL

The main was seared scallops which was very large, fresh and well seared on both side while juicy and moist on the inside. I couldn't help but to ask for a slice of the chicken that my brother in law was having. It was chicken breast with truffle stuffing. The meat was sooooo tender and juicy, i suspect it was cooked in a water bath. for it to keep the texture and shape.

Restaurant Petite Bonheur offers a calm and inviting atmosphere, with classic white tablecloths setting the stage for a potentially elegant dining experience. Unfortunately, the execution doesn't quite match the initial promise.

While the dishes are presented well and appear thoughtfully composed, the menu itself is limited and lacks exciting choices. The taste of the food ranged from good to disappointing. The fish was dry, and a starter seemed to have been prepped too far in advance, compromising its freshness. Similarly, the meat was inconsistently cooked, with some parts overcooked and lacking flavor.

The waiting staff, while friendly, made some service missteps. Our orders were mixed up, delivered incorrectly, and even partially forgotten on one occasion.

Considering the price point, the overall experience fell short of expectations. For those seeking a truly memorable meal with flawless execution, there might be better...

Our experience here was what I'd describe as "so-so", not good enough to want to come back here. The staff were very friendly and fairly attentive, but they do need some structure. Being asked to order drinks 3 times after sitting down, really? That's not really okay. That they brought the wrong year of the wine is something I can be lenient with.
