Today I went to Taihu with my friend who just came back from a business trip. Since I haven’t met him for quite a while, we decided to meet at Taihu to enjoy the Chinese food there. We ordered a few dim sums and Kung Pao Chicken at around 19:00. Then by 19:30, we have all dishes placed on the table. Until now, it was all fine. The dimsums are quite nice but Kung Pao chicken was really below the expectations to be honest. But it is ok overall, we were fine with the food since for us to meet for a catch up is more important than food itself. However, we were shocked by their impolite or better call offending service since while we were still chatting after eating, the waitress just brought the bill to us and asked to pay( knowing that, the two white customers sitting one table further next to us, were doing the same thing like we did but were not asked to pay to leave at all) … We were really shocked. How possible such a service still existing in the NL? And how should the waitress expect us to understand her different way of treating people? Was it because we both are Asian customers, so they could expect us to keep accepting such way of serving? We pointed it out to the waitress since it is really not a proper way of serving but we didn’t feel she really admitted this is WRONG way of serving but she kept saying that we were here already two hours and there are people waiting for a table. ( but it is not really the case and it was already around 21:00). Later on, I shared this story with my dutch friends. They all are also shocked and even said this is really a SHAME for a restaurant, which has been existing in Rdam for so many years and asked me to better report it.. After serious thinking, I decided to share this story here and hopefully the owner could see it and take it as lesson-learned for future improvements. Thank you and it was really not a pleasant dining...
Read moreMy friends and I had a horrible experience in this restaurant. I haven't felt so un-welcome to a place like I felt there.
First of all, we arrived at 10:00 pm to the place, and they allowed us to enter and sit, then a waitress came and told us that they are closing at 10:30 so they won't serve us food, even though in google says that the place is open until 11 pm, ayways the waitress was so threatening that he wanted to punch my friend becuase he told him that in google says 11 pm. Then another waitress came to calm down the things and told us to sit and that he was going to serve us. Anyways, we stayed (TERRIBLE IDEA), we should have left.
Secondly, the food is fine is not like a must-go place for chinesse diner. The took so long to served us, they served us by part, with a lot of things missing. They took additional 20 minutes to serve the side dish that was fried rice, at the end the only brought white rice (I think this was message), I really regret I had stayed there.
Thirdly, we are super fast and we were about to finiss, max we would have taken 5 minutes more and another waitress came and almost took the dishes and utensilies literally from your mouth! We said to her that we where about to finish and then she was screaming at us that in 2 minutes they will be closed.
Finally, not enough with all the unpleasant dinner, we wanted to share this with the owner and he replied: "it wasn't me" ... So basically, it wasn't his business.
Again, I repeat: there's nothing special with the food, you can find same food-quality in another chinesse restaurant and you will feel very welcome to the place and therefore the food will be good and the time you spend with your friends won't be a waste. Don't spend...

As an expat who was born and has spent two decades of my life in Hong Kong, I would say this yum cha place is terribly overrated. Beef congee was bland and tasted like glue paste. Its lo mai kai stuffing is cheap (nothing more than a piece of bony chicken and chinese sausage) and meagre. Customer service was the worse among all chinese restaurants I had ever been to. Since we were the first time here, I tried to ask them what kind of tea they offered. To my surprise, most staff ignored my question and walked away without offering any help.
After a 45 minute wait, we realized the restaurant missed our chasiubao order. As we were not so hungry anymore, we told them to cancel it, provided that the kitchen hadn't started preparing them. The waitress confirmed the error and yet unwillingly did so. Later on my Dutch friend expressed her wish to get some dessert, so I requested the same waitress to take a new order. Her response shocked me off. She said, "I thought you guys were full. You cancelled the chasiubao. Why do you want to order something new?" The nasty woman even told us that the dessert would take at least 30 minutes to prepare, in order to deter us from ordering. After the bill was paid, they immediately kicked us out.
Having gone through this unpleasant experience, My Dutch friend developed a poor impression of Cantonese people. Everyone working in this restaurant, who displayed their rudeness to its finest, should be ashamed...
