Mangiare Rotterdam — Restaurant in Rotterdam

We have been visiting Mangiare for several years (mainly the other location close to Blaak), but after tonight’s experience we are honestly doubting almost everything about this place!

First, the “service” was extremely slow as mentioned in many other reviews, and good luck calling for someone to order.. There was no worthy service at all, it all was chaotic, unprofessional and even rude at times. One of our guests, an Italian, ordered the special of the house (spaghetti) that was clearly too al dente (we all tried). We were promised a new plate, but that just didn’t arrive. Long after the rest of us finished our meals, and after having asked again and again, the replacement spaghetti was served (with only a half and non genuine “sorry for waiting”…and..it was exactly the same, way too al dente. When we told them this, the “chef” came to our table, and said quote “I’m not a chef, I’m only instructed to make it like this”. Also, the “chef” said they only cook with fresh pasta which they get delivered every day. But, fresh pasta can not be al dente at all, precisely because it is fresh!

On a more general level, the food’s quality is disappointing (what happened??) and it is served in small portions (bad price-quality ratio).

So, it’s a real pity and I hope the management will take this...

We went to this place a couple of months ago and when we arrived, we were told that there were seating options upstairs. We went upstairs and waited for 10-15 minutes for a waiter, but no one came. We found the menu online and decided to approach a waiter directly to place our order since we were very hungry. I also ordered wine, but they brought me a completely different one. I informed them of the mistake and it took them 10 minutes to inform me that they didn't have the wine I originally ordered. They suggested another red wine, but for some reason, they poured it into a water glass instead of a wine glass. Then, they brought the food. I ordered lasagne, but it was served without any meat. It would have been nice to have some description or at least if they had mentioned it. I didn't even finish it. When I went to pay, they charged me the wrong price, which was 60 more than it should have been. I noticed the mistake when I had already used my phone to pay. [Slow service] We arrived at 17:59 when there were only 2 tables being served. Everything was fine until we saw the restaurant became more crowded and the main course was served to every table except for ours. We asked the waitress to check if our orders have been missed and she confirmed the kitchen was preparing. We noticed many tables came into the restaurant half an hour after us and they even finished their meals. We couldn't wait like that anymore since we had a feeling of being ignored. We paid and left the restaurant at 19:45. Our main dishes were Lasagna and Pasta which were complicated enough for this restaurant to prepare in 1.5 hours. There was no reason has been explained by the restaurant. When we asked to pay, it took the cashier 3 attempts to get the right check for us. If we didn't check, we would have paid more than what we served. We left with disappointment and anger.
