After a recommendation from our uncle Paul Coleman, we discovered De Gele Kanarie: A True Dutch Gem, Enhanced by Exceptional Hospitality. De Gele Kanarie is a delightful discovery, a hidden gem that beautifully captures the essence of Dutch hospitality and cuisine. From the moment we sat down outside, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our experience was significantly elevated by our host, Matt (we sincerely hope we've remembered the name correctly!). As individuals with experience in hospitality management in the UK, we were thoroughly impressed by Matt's professionalism and genuine enthusiasm. His extensive knowledge of Dutch food was evident, and his recommendations were spot-on, guiding us towards a truly authentic and enjoyable dining experience. The food itself was excellent, reflecting the quality and care put into each dish. Combined with the charming ambience, De Gele Kanarie offered a truly memorable evening. There is nothing better to do on a sunny summer's day when you get off work around 5 and there's still about 5 hours worth of sun. You're off for a feed with your colleague and your throat is conveniently thirsty. Something that a nice glass of homebrew beer would fix. De Gele Kanarie checks all these boxes, with surprisingly good bar food, predictably good beer and just a chill atmosphere.

There's also a bunch of whacky decor of humans with yellow canary heads, which I think is the Dutch name of the joint. I think if you drink enough beer in here you might end up with a yellow canary head yourself. Whether this is a good thing or a bad...

Nice atmosphere and ok location. Prices are reasonable. Food is ok. Asked for a coke zero and got pepsi max without any previous warning, because according to the waitress it's the same thing :-) Curious if that applies to other situations in life... Overall, the four stars is a bit exaggerated, but it was an ok experience.
