The reason I’m giving a one-star review is due to a series of disappointing experiences during what was meant to be a special occasion.
Positives: The prices at Gauchos are reasonable, and the outdoor seating offers a beautiful view of the water and the Erasmusbrug, making it a potentially great spot when the weather is nice.
Negatives: Unfortunately, the service and food quality were far below expectations. When we arrived, we waited a long time before being seated and had to ask for assistance. The table we were given was dirty with leftover food, sauces, and drinks from previous diners. It took 20 minutes and a direct request to get it cleaned, even though multiple employees walked by and noticed it.
After the table was finally cleaned, we ordered a Pepsi Max with a slice of lemon, a chardonnay, and bread as an appetizer. The drinks took another 10-15 minutes to arrive, and the order was incorrect—no chardonnay was served, and I received a regular Pepsi instead of Pepsi Max, without the lemon slice. We were also never asked if we wanted more drinks during our 1.5-hour visit.
We never received the bread we ordered, though it initially appeared on the receipt (it was removed upon payment). The main courses were also disappointing: the grilled chicken was dry, and the grilled salmon was overcooked and lacked flavor. The fries were overly oily, making the meal less enjoyable.
Overall, while the location and pricing have potential, the service and attention to detail need significant...
Read more2/3 years ago I gave this restaurant 5 stars, now changed to barely 3 stars. My partner reserved a table for the restaurant, but when we arrived we could only sit outside on the terrace. You could only sit inside for medical reasons. Sorry but this is just absurd. You reserve to sit inside a restaurant not to be forced to sit outside. The terrace was not even that atmospheric or a real terrace. For a more expensive restaurant like Gauchos you would expect more. Also the service when we arrived was really not very nice or welcoming. Getting seated was not a nice experience and took quite some time to get menu cards. Especially when it’s a birthday dinner this is quite disappointing. Also less stars because the service overal went down.
Do have to say that we got the food pretty fast and also because we mentioned we had to leave at a specific time, this was well done. The service got a bit better later on.
Overall, I am quite disappointed by this last visit. I had good experiences in the past, for now I will only come back to Gauchos aan de Plas since there the service is much better, better atmosphere and you can choose if you want to sit...
Read moreOur evening at Gauchos was an exercise in frustration, not fine dining. We arrived promptly at 19:15, eager for a pleasant meal. What followed was a masterclass in how to alienate customers.
After sitting for a staggering 45 minutes, and having to ask twice, we finally received menus at 20:00. Another 20 minutes passed before our drinks arrived, by which point our initial hunger had morphed into irritated anticipation. The appetizers, when they eventually graced our table, arrived another 20 minutes later.
The main course? That took a further 35 minutes. By this point, our dining experience had devolved into a test of endurance. The food itself was mediocre, but frankly, the prolonged wait had soured any potential enjoyment.
The service was abysmal. The staff were consistently slow, seemingly absent, and displayed a distinct lack of interest in their patrons. It felt as though we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers.
In short, if you have an evening to waste and enjoy being ignored, Gauchos is the place for you. For anyone else seeking a timely and attentive dining experience, I strongly advise...
