We had a lovely diner and evening.
We arrived 15 minutes before our 19:30 reservation, so we hit the bar with a glass of wine.
The ambience was really nice, dimmed lights, soft music, created an unique atmosphere.
No one rush us to meet our reservation, I believe they might be taking only one reservation per night, so you can enjoy every moment and step if you get a multiple course dinner.
We moved to our table after a while, and we were welcome by the staff. Get ready to eat, the welcome dish was some Spanish ham, this is courtesy and not charged.
We opted for a 5 course dinner accompanied by a “pairing” (basically one different wine per dish that should fit well with it), but in this case we limited it to 3 (consider it as an option if also don’t feel like drinking too much), since we felt that it we would had to rush to finish each cup.
The whole experience allows you to take your time, have a nice evening, enjoy the dishes and wine.
The food was simply incredible, we were really happy with our choice, and we enjoy every single bite. Even the most simple things like bread and butter were exquisite. The selection of wine was also outstanding.
The staff was friendly and welcoming, and they were very attentive. My girlfriend standup to go to the toilet, and one waiter put her chair on its place and neatly positioned her napkin on the table.
We left really full and really happy. We would probably come back some day. More than...
Read moreLost us forever. Booked for 5 for an a la carte dinner coming all the way from Den Haag. Last minute our young son asked to join. Called the restaurant to ask for another seat. No problem they said only that you are obliged to take our 5 course menu because we can serve 5 a la carte orders but 5+kid is beyond our ability. We said, the kid will not eat. Haha, she said, you can't fool the system. A rule is a rule. 6 guests can only have a full 5 meal menu. I thought it's a case of a new hostess citing a procedure, but no, this was rigidly confirmed by the restaurant manager that haven't blinked and kicked us out. Please do not book here. If you care about service, they don't deserve your good money. Make Netherlands service sensitive. Support only establishments that understand service is about making people happy, being soft and considerate and yes, making exceptions. Please reject rigid service providers. To Guide Michelin, I hope you read this. Please skip this restaurant this year. Give them some time to change...
Read moreWe'd read about the New York Hotel as we were travelling to Southampton UK to board a ship. I'd only intended to get a picture of the outside before we got back on the ship after sightseeing in Rotterdam but we heard music coming from the basement, beautiful music, it was enticing even from the street and who doesn't love steps down to a doorway when you don't know what or who is waiting for you down there... The guy who was singing Sinatra songs, the barmen, the decor everywhere, including the "restrooms" the divine cocktails and the guy playing the sax gave a wonderful and authentic feeling, and we were very happy to have stumbled across you New York Basement. Unfortunately we only had time for one cocktail and a few photographs taken with your "Sinatra", but had we had more time we would have stayed longer, drank another with Frank and tried a bite or two from your delicious looking menu. Here's hoping we return one day for a broader stay in your...
