Bleyenberg justifies racism because of ‘prior incidents where women were endangered by men’. Not sure which one is more worrying, the racism or the fact that women apparently get harrased at their establishment.
A few friends, my boyfriend and I came for in for a few drinks, then afterwards proceeded to the karaoke lounge in the basement. We had a pretty good time until my boyfriend and I walked by one of staff members who then proceeded to ask me if I was okay. They were more or less implying that maybe I was in ‘danger’ from the man (my boyfriend) walking with me.
From a woman’s stand point of view I find the question very valid. Especially, since I got told there had been incidents with women before. But when taking into account that we had been there already for an hour or two. Both of us just talking and laughing, it seemed like an odd question. As an interracial couple having gone through multiple similar situations we find that the trigger to this question is either our own behavior, or it’s because of racism. My boyfriends asked for any security footage to see if our behavior indeed might have been suspicious. They did not want to. Nor did they admit any wrong doing and their only explanation to me was that there have been ‘incidents with women before’.
I get that mistakes happen, but after reading the reviews about the “Ling Ling Duck” incident, I now understand that this place lacks training on offensive issues and only takes initiative after a few bad reviews.
Hopefully, Bleyenberg will consider the racism and will hire security for the harassment as no security was seen that night. Seems worrying they are aware of the problem, but instead let their employees deal with such matters. Safety should be a priority for both their customers and...
Read moreVERY VERY bad service. Firstly, I made a booking with someone from the rooftop for my birthday, he sent me the booking confirmation via email. On THE day, I called again to make sure and they said... “oh it is not possible to make reservations here, you can just come”. Like what? If it wasn’t possible I would have booked somewhere else? Secondly, I came back because they told me that they still had my shoes that I forgot in a bag. When I came the (big) guy told me to go upstairs to ask his college named Kim (if not mistaken), I went upstairs. Once I was there she was confused tried to look but couldn’t find it and told me to go downstairs to tell the college that the shoes are behind the bar. I went downstairs. Once I came back downstairs they barely even looked and ‘ignored’ me being there and busy to do whatever they were doing. I was losing my patience and I asked again if they found my shoes, then they said no. What a JOKE. Don’t tell me to come in the first place and waste my time coming there waiting for more than half an hour if you don’t have it anymore! I don’t usually write a review but this is unacceptable behavior. I will not come back and not recommend this place because of...
Read moreWe were today the first time in the famous „Rooftop Bar“ (after several unsuccessful attempts at wrong days).
Our motivation was just the famous view from the terrace, our other expectations were rather cautious - but we were quite positively supprised by a very friendly & also fast service and an acceptable priced menu (alas, the food concentrates on something like a „borrel kaard“ with dishes which are not really cheap but quite a good quality!)
I was a bit surprised that the young ladies in the service seems to speak only english (will mean: no chance to improve my rather rudimentary dutch) and the menu - a QR code on the table - was for us as „dumb phone users“ a little challenge, but the girls reacted very pragmatic & offered us their own (I suppose: business) phone to check the menu…
All in all: Nice place to come back :-)
(Fun fact aside: the music was mostly from our - my wifes & mine - youth, will mean more or less all the staff was of course born quite later than this songs were produced… But a nice playlist for an „old fart“ like me, born...
