ANY TRIP TO THE NETHERLANDS SHOULD INCLUDE THIS LOCATION. Imagine a sushi restaurant but with jenevers. Found this location after doing some thorough research on activities in The Hague. When I walked up to the door, I almost didn't know if I had the right location. I was ALONE as my partner was occupied with work but that never took away from my experience. I was greeted upon entering and learned that they had a large tasting menu of different liquors for about 1,50 each (some specialty liquors were 2,0 euros). I was sat in the garden with a "walking drink" (a shot of limoncello) and was given small book about the history of distilleries in the Hague. This reading material gave me something to do as I was alone, and it was filled with many interesting facts that I later shared with friends. I was also given a bottle of about 750mL of water and a menu where I could mark what jenever I would like to try. I had about 9 (was feeling really good by the end) and all the liquors, old and young jenevers were delicious (with some exceptions but were all different and that's half the fun finding your preferences). There was traditional drinks as well, which added to the experience. Upon completion, I was overjoyed to find out how cheap my hour and a half experience really was. This location sells liquors for very reasonable prices and to any of my fellow travelers, the location can also sell canteens of 100mL. Thanks for the...
Read morewe bumbled in as unaware tourists and the person working at the desk very kindly explained that they only did tours on the weekend but that we could still check out the written version in our own time (interesting and informative!) and then she went out of her way to prepare a table for us outside for the tasting. asking if we wanted to sit in the sun or out of the sun, etc. she was so lovely and funny
we sat in the beautiful back garden surrounded by gorgeous flowers and sipped at teeny glasses of jenever for extremely reasonable prices. it was so nice there 😭
we were surprised to find that they sell little bottles (100mL) of practically all their selection! it's perfect for souvenirs, gifts, and/or people like us who only bring carry-ons for travel 😅 we bought four and look forward to trying them soon (especially the salted liquorice...)
oh and the jenevers themselves are excellent of course. they know what they're...
Read moreA huge part of what makes this place special are the people that work here, from the kitchen staff to the bar, everyone is wonderful! They were more than accommodating, and made us feel welcomed and included with the tasting experience even though we naively walked-in last minute without reservations (reservations ARE required for the guided tasting/tour, which we learned after the fact). The staff were nice and allowed us to join mid-tasting in our very spontaneous visit, which turned into one of my favorite tasting experiences…ever. The bar bites are delicious and pair well with the liqueur. Make sure to get the spicy pepper concoction!
Note to self: make reservations to get the full...
