Grand Café De Tijd — Restaurant in The Hague

A perfect combination of location, good ambience, great service, and variety of nice food come all together for this Restaurant, De Tijd has it all. When you enter you are greeted by Lovely team of staff and they are as warm as the interior which has a eclectic wonderful mix of wooden floors and brick walls, many different wine storage displays and a mirror ball it's really quite lovely. The tables are a good size and the seating comfortable. There’s plenty of seating of different types and Covid measures are in full use and display. Out side there’s a modern and huge terrace area with a all covered awning. Perfect for those lovely summer evenings. But just as cosy I’m sure in winter. Overall whilst this is not my number one go to restaurant, in Den Haag, this place is very good and worth a visit, brunch, lunch or dinner I’m sure you’ll have a lovely time.

Meals - below average, service - terrible, prices - over the top. Even though "everybody" speaks English in the Netherlands, we got scammed by their waitress - when asked if one large meal is enough for three of us, she responded yes if you are not hungry. So we added some fries and thought it was ok. We ended up paying three full platters of meat (it was our first time there, so we didn't know if it was full size or not) and fries for a grand total of 100E - and still hungry. When we wanted explanation for that, the waitress said that she asked us if three platters ok and that we confirmed it, but she can deduct the fries.... Long story short, we got stud up so please choose to eat elsewhere...

The restaurant is located behind the parliament, in a square full of life. The terrace was comfortable and a great spot if you enjoy seeing the hustle and bustle of the city.

I ordered the toast with cottage cheese, avocado, cherry tomates & nuts. It was quite good, specially the tomatoes which were sweet/spicy. I'd have liked it better if the bread was toasted but that's just my own personal taste!

However, the reason why I'm not giving five stars is because they don't do tap water. I don't understand why shouldn't I be able to get a glass of tap water with my food.
