Great food, quite resembling what they can and do eat in China. Even my Chinese wife said so.
The owner was okay, but seemingly she did not want to answer the question from my wife if she comes from Xi'an. I had to ask the owner directly and under 4 eyes if she was from Xi'an and I got a very short confirming answer. Given how calm it was in the restaurant the social interaction between the owner us was a bit too minimal for my taste, but thats perhaps my personal opinion. Its just that usually when two chinese people encounter each other in the Netherlands a vivid and lively conversation happens and this was the first I saw this not happening so I write this more as being surprised.
Besides that, the big flush button on the toilet was broken so I could not do a poo poo. Perhaps just unlucky timing but looking around I recommend them to hire a cleaner and klusjesman for a day to fix broken things (rotten wood, paint, installing a toiletshowr) as well as cleaning (ventilator + shaft, the seams around the sink and just a deep cleaning in general). All in all the usual things you see to be broken and under-maintained in any...
Read moreMy third time here. The first two times were ok, nothing memorable. This time, three of us dined. First, my order was not delivered and I was given a dish I did not order. Ok, no real problem. Accidents happen. Meanwhile my daughter-in-law ordered braised beef noodles. The beef appeared to be raw: it was dark red and impenetrable. It had gristle and ligaments hanging off it. We asked the owner if the ‘braised beef’ was cooked. She snapped out that it was ‘cook 5 hours!!!’. If so, it must have been truly awful before it was cooked for 5 hours, because this beef was so hard that none of us could eat it. I have never tried to eat a rubber ball, but I now suppose that this braised beef had a similar texture, and even better resilience to knife and fork. But at least the taste was different: rubber balls lack MSG and beef stock flavour. When I paid the bill for the three meals and drinks, the owner announced the amount, and did not show me the details. The amount seemed high. So then I found out that she had charged me for the meal I did not order. She said it was an accident. Accidents happen with them, it seems....
Read moreChinese noodle restaurant. Serve tradional foods. First thing i noticed is the interior looks also very traditional, nice touch, i like it. I decide to have the beef noodle soup. I take a medium bowl, waitress says to me this is a small portion but i'll have the medium anyways. This arrives quick and it's hot, but not piping hot. How's the taste!?! The broth: this must be hot and rich in taste, and it is! After tasting the soup as served i add some vinegar soy sauce and hot oil... even better! The noodles are not soggy, they're pretty chewy. Some bak choi and thin slices of beef, thats ok. But they add some julienne cut cucumber, been sprouts and cilantro wich give it anice crunchy bite. It's certainly not disappointing here, i like it. Next time i will try the dan-dan noodles, they also look good.. If you like this review hit the...
