Awful doesn't do it justice!
We attended the Unox New Years Dive event because why not!? And my wife booked us in here for 13:00hrs to have something to eat after. Anyway!! We get there slightly before 1 o'clock and speak to 2 female staff standing "greeting" people and my wife explains that she's booked, bla bla bla. One of them snorts, laughs and says good luck... Good luck?! How rude are you?! Wow!! We're told to just go find a table if we can ... It set the tone for lunch. We got to order drinks within the hour, barely. Then our food order, which of course we waited a long time... Moving on... Starter arrived, burnt cold gyōzas. Disgusting. Next, main! Whatever that is in my picture is not what they described in the menu to us. We were expecting 12 o'clock rolls? Which should've been warm, with pork, beef rolls and that's NOT what we got. Cold beef on oddly tasting bread. I was famished, so I ate it all! When the waiter came over a loooong time later to collect plates (after my father-in-law waved MULTIPLE times for the bill) he asked how our meal was. I told him it was disgusting and cold. I also had half a bowl of soup compared to the others which had more but also stone cold same as everyone else at the table. He laughed and said he could tell because my plate was empty. I explained that I was hungry and would eat roadkill right now. I think he then realised I wasn't joking and apologised that the kitchen staff were short today. Fair enough, maybe they're doing their best? Who knows. While we sat there and drank the last of our wine, we found out why the food is so cold. Gazing at the pass, with food just sitting there and not under any heater, watching countless staff approach and not take anything was comical but not funny! A meal was sat there for 13 minutes! With a few blondes leaning over the pass, talking over it, their hair dropping into it. I wish we saw this sooner! Absolute joke of a restaurant!!! Clearly busy for the New Year event, it died after lunch and almost empty and that's not surprising. Don't go here! Find somewhere better and share a better...
Read moreIf there was a way to score lower, i would definitely do so. Went in on the 8th of March. We're not even given any menus but the waiter ask for pur drink in lass than 2 minutes of us sitting down. We are given the lunch menus even though dinner dishes can be served. All good except you don't really know what you're going to get. Steam is not in the business of letting customers know the approximate weight of the meal. Just order and pray it's enough, because the servers don't know this either. Moving on to the entire menu. The lunch selection is mediocre at best. Taking into consideration that they offer 3 burgers which represent half the menu....seems a better fit to eat at the McDonalds right beside Steam. At least the selection is bigger and prices are much cheaper. The dinner menu is somewhat more robust, but you'd probably have to come after 6pm to get that menu. I say probably since there is no such information on the website (a little bit about the website: you better access it from a laptop since the mobile version is inexistant and the site developers probably didn't expect mobile clients browsing their website). I promptly exited the join and i will not step food inside ever again, nor would i ever recommend anyone to pay spicy prices for the food. Just visit Jamie's Italian in Rotterdam which has similar prices but much better...
Read moreSince the food offer and prices are very similar for all the restaurants at the beach, we decided to go to Steam since it has very good reviews.
First of all, this review is only about the food and the ambience in general. They have a great variety of beers which might be worth a fourth star, but we didn’t try it.
We had the classic Cheeseburger. The presentation of the food was nice, the fries were very good. The main part of the dish - the burger - was only okay. There was way too much lettuce and too little sauce. The sauce which was on it had a very special taste which I actually didn’t like. It was very intense and more like a BBQ sauce. Furthermore, the burger tasted a lot like butter - I think it was the bun.
Another thing that made the stay a little uncomfortable was that it was really cold in the restaurant. When we asked the staff, they turned on one of the heaters next to our table. Then it was okay, because the heater was right next to our table - but we saw other guests who sat there with their jackets on…
Unfortunately we don’t have many places in Scheveningen to compare Steam to because after our experience we preferred not to risk a similar experience for such a high price. That’s why I give 3 stars, especially for points like the crunchy fries and the nice...
