Papa Steak Denneweg — Restaurant in The Hague

Below average experience compared with other steakhouses.

The restaurant is going for a casual fine dining atmosphere but it falls short of that mainly due to slow service.

We ordered a Moscow Mule and a gin & tonic which took 30 minutes to arrive. It was understandable with how busy the restaurant was. However, wine glasses should have been removed to make more room on the table for the entrees.

We got our ham and bread appetizer before our drinks. Our entree order was not taken until after we finished the appetizer. I think this is what may have caused our steak to take 40 minutes, which would have been fine if it had been cooking while eating our appetizer.

The bread and ham appetizer itself was great! We loved the garlic sauce for the bread the most. The ham was good as expected.

We got the T-Bone steak cooked medium to share with fries. The steak temperature was as requested, but the flavor felt very bland. It would have been better if the steak had more flavor like pepper, garlic, or rosemary. We did get the chimmichuri and butter sauces which came on the side, but the steak still fell below our expectations. The fries were as expected. No salt on them either.

The server was kind, but very slow and perhaps not following server steps to make the overall experience go more smoothly. This place could live to the vision of a casual fine dining restaurant with more server training and control over...

I went to Papasteak because from the pictures on the website I saw a center cut filet, which, from what I could tell did not exist on the menu once there. The Hague is an International city the seat of government and embassies, yet they only had menus in Dutch. The meal I did receive was decent; however, I’m not a fan of how steak is served in the Netherlands, why are steaks cut into horizontal slices? I don’t understand that at all. I will say that I enjoyed the atmosphere and the selection of music. However the part that ruined my experience and made me decide I’ll never come back here again, is when it was time to pay. My card wasn’t declined, I was told the system was down and the poor young man had no idea what to do. They still expected me to pay of course; however I had no cash. I had to walk around for 20 mins until I found an ATM to pay for my meal. Upon my return, I wasn’t compensated in any way for my time to find money to pay for my meal because their system was down. I could have left and not returned; however, I came back and paid. Their system being down is not my fault and to go out of my way to find money, I should have been compensated in some manner. I will never patronize this...

So today was my mother's birthday and we had booked this place for her surprise dinner. We were expecting a great dinner and we were shocked, surprised by the utter lack of culinary acumen and basic table service. I would have gotten better food and service at the mcdonalds around the corner. The steaks were drowning in salt, the potatoes were about 2 months old and the pepper sauce was basically brown watery plastic. We sent back our steaks 3 times for being too salty and/or too cold. The manager was not understanding nor accommodating and served other tables before us. Un-believable.

The only good thing about this place is the bottled water.

Do - not come to this establishment if you suffer from high blood pressure or if you have any sort of taste buds.

Oh and not even a birthday...
