During our week in the Netherlands, my wife and I enjoyed many good meals, but the lunch we had at Restaurant Le Bistrot de la Place in The Hague was hands down the best of the trip!
We were visiting the Mauritshuis and had plans to go to Escher in Het Paleis. This bistro tucked just around the corner from the Escher museum was the perfect midday stop. I always research restaurants ahead of time when we travel to avoid any disappointing meals, and this place exceeded all expectations.
The owner himself served us, and it felt like dining in a cozy Parisian bistro. He was warm, welcoming, and helped us choose ideal wine pairings for each course. We started with escargot that was just as delicious as what I've had in Paris. For our mains, my wife ordered the leg of lamb and I had the duck confit. Both were perfectly prepared. We finished by sharing a crème brûlée that was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.
We had made a reservation the day before (for a weekday lunch), though it probably wasn’t necessary for that time of day. The service was outstanding, the ambience was charming, and the food was simply top-tier.
When we return to the Netherlands, Restaurant Le Bistrot de la Place will be at the top of our itinerary. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting The Hague, especially if you’re looking to enjoy a relaxing and memorable French meal between...

There are loads of hearty French classics - think deer, boar, escargot, onion soup - with good seasonal variety. So importantly, the charismatic and charming owner makes you feel welcome and right at home. Always the hallmark of a successful restaurant. Highly...

Comfortable seating and...
