I dined at The Hangout Vietnamese for lunch on 4 Jan. We were warmly greeted in the nicely & uniquely decorated restaurant. It's very pretty. After ordering, then the staff correcting my order because it was wrong, we enjoyed our meal. We had spring rolls, beef pho and an order of side vegetable noodles, with drinks. I love their interesting tea bags. While we were not given the side plate of pho garnishes (no Thai basil, lime, jalapeño), the pho was flavourful with a hint of spice, and the noodles with vegetables were absolutely delicious! Edit: Not everyone is treated the same at this restaurant. Upon looking at other reviews, it seems as though my plain tea cup full of hot water for tea is not their standard practice. It seems I was given the generic tea experience, even though I asked what tea was available. I was given no options. This makes sense with my other comments about my incorrect food and no garnishes with pho. Wij zijn geen toeristen, dus behandel mensen niet alsof je ze nooit meer zult zien. Je weet nooit...
Read moreWe were craving Vietnam broth dishes and The Hangout seemed like a good option given the diverse menu and good reviews. The service was nice with friendly staffs. It was a Saturday night so it was very busy, with only 2 waiting staffs and 2 cooks (we could see right into the kitchen with our seating arrangements), everything seemed like overload at that time for the staffs.
We ordered the Hue beef rice noodle soup - Bún Bò Huế (1), beef thick rice noodle soup - Phở Bò (2) and fried fish rice noodle salad - Bún Chả Cá. I shared with my husband both dish 1 and 2, and these were our least pleasant experience of rice noodle soups we had have in so long in and out of Vietnam. The broth of the Bun Bo Hue has no rich, spicy, and aromatic savory flavor of lemongrass and chili. There is a strong presence of fish sauce. The Phở Bò broth tasted like it was being masked with plentiful of MSG. The only things to recommend are the tenderness and flavorful beef, the nice presentation of the food, the delicious salted coffee and the lovely and...
Read moreUnfortunately was this Vietnamese restaurant far away from how it should be. We were two people who arrived after reading the good reviews. The place was empty. We orderen chicken springrolls. They were burned and the chicken did not taste good/ like it if was there for days ans was refried. The guy working there did not even make the effort to give us cuttery or napkins, i gabbed them myself from the table next to us. We thought that the recommended soup were better Too bad, the same poor quality. It was like a big plate filled with water, perhaps the one they used to cook the noodles, and later they added the pieces of meat - already precooked- inside. So un tasty, no flavour at all. It supposed to come with some veggies for each. We got one little basket with a few sprouts and basil. That s all. Too bad, Vietnamese food can be so tasty, not here, this is a shame. I do not...
