This restaurant, Graaf Floris Café Restaurant in Utrecht, was very good overall, a good experience that I recommend.
The staff was the professional, welcoming, and kind. The cozy ambiance, enhanced by the historical charm of the building, we seated outside in the comfy circular bench like tables just next to the entrance, which adds to the charm.
The food was good, we ordered the soup of the day, a spinach and pepper blend that was great. The bitterballen were also very good, a nice Dutch treat. The Dutch stew was rich and comforting, really delicious. The Scotch eggs were also fine. For dessert, we had their famous appelbol, a warm apple pastry with marzipan that lived up to its reputation, it was simply delicious!
The beer recommendation by the waiter, the restaurant’s bio beer was also very good.
Graaf Floris has a storied history. Established in 1973 by the Walgering family, it has been a staple in Utrecht’s dining scene for over 50 years. The restaurant is housed in a building dating back to 1896, built atop 11th-century wharf cellars, adding to its unique character. In 2023, new owners Rik van Orsouw and Angela Hol took over, ensuring that the beloved traditions, like the classic appelbol, continue to delight patrons.

Read moreWe were 5 people and a baby, and got a table meant for 4 (max) + baby seat. So 3 of us had to squeeze really bad to sit on these benches, it's not even chairs, and they were not feeling the most stable.
About the food, We ordered the tomato soup which was... Ok... To me it tasted a lot like concentrate tomatoes in a can... Sorry...
We ordered the risotto balls, they were really tasty and i would have ordered that again.
The eggplant was slightly undercooked (was not brown all the way) so it wasn't as nice as it could have been if it had more time in the oven...
The vegan kabab pita thing was alright, but very dry. So we put a lot of the sauce from the risotto in there. We also ordered the steak which was not really a steak, more like a chunk of dry meat... Was not tasty at all...
We also ordered the vegan cheese cake, which was not a cake at all apparently, but more like a cream in a cup... The cream was OK, if it was spread between 2 layers of a spong cake for example, but on its own was a bit weird... The baby liked...
No!
