Super fun little museum hidden in the city. It tells you the story of how supermarkets developed over time. There is a great collection of old food packaging (tea, coffee, Coca Cola, oil etc.) that is just so interesting and insightful to see. They also have a great collection of pins and something that looked like posting stamps, but I have no idea what it was really. There are also small cabinets dedicated to all the big supermarkets (Dirk, Lidl, AH etc.) telling a bit of their story. My only wish is that the museum would be also in English as I don’t speak Dutch too well, so had to go around with Google Translate all the time. There is a candy store at the entrance so you can actually buy some sweets and the choice is huge. The staff is super friendly and knowledgable and made this whole experience even better. On top of that, free admission makes it totally worth it.

We had a wonderful experience. The staff working there were super friendly, informative and seemed to love to share their knowledge about traditional Dutch sweets. The museum portion—which is free—had a fascinating history of Dutch supermarkets. The only wish I had would be translated information for non-Dutch speakers. However, that’s really easy to get around these days with live image translations on phones. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for the video that plays in the basement area. Having English subtitles for it would be a nice touch. It’s still 5 starts in my book as you can still immerse yourself in the old packaging, massive matchbook collection and pin collection!

This museum had so much character! With free entry, you can go through a whole timeline and collection of grocery and packaging-related history in either Dutch or English. On top of that, the front of the museum acts as an old-fashioned candy store, pricing candy by scaled weights etc. which is a really fun (as well as affordable!) to watch. The ladies working the museum on the day we went were kind and went out of their way to greet us and explain how to go through the museum. We had a very warm and pleasant experience here and would recommend it for all ages. Also, it’s a great spot for unique souvenirs.
