Churly's Brewpub & Eatery — Restaurant in Albert-Eden

Alright, here we go. Just left Churly’s happy and satisfied. If you look at my reviews from other places, you’ll probably notice a pattern... only 5 star ones and the occasional 4 star (which still is absolutely worth a visit). In other words, I only extremely rarely slag a place off and only post a review if I like it. Which brings me back to the topic. 5 stars for Churly’s after my first visit.

The menu fits on two small pages, but this is actually really positive. I’d rather have only a few choices, but really good ones. And I promise, just reading the menu will make your mouth water. What you see in the photo is some unusual but very tasty “Katsu style” Wagyu beef with potato wedges in the background. If you like Wagyu, I highly recommend you try it.

We gave a few different beers a go and none of them disappointed. My favourite of the evening was the “Lid Ripper” of which I took a 2 litre bottle away for office beer-o’clock tomorrow (a Friday).

Conclusion... super nice staff, nice location, indoor and covered outdoor seating, great product. A sure recipe for “I’ll visit again”.

Update #1 (after 22/04/21 visit): I‘ll keep this one brief... great atmosphere again, more delicious beers and we were amazed by the food (sorry, forgot to take pictures). Tacos, pork with fermented blueberries, the croquettes, gnocchis and the empanadas. Sooo good! 😋 Thanks...

Probably my favourite NZ brewer and now they have an Auckland outpost where there are around 20 beers on tap and some rather tasty food options. I opted for the tasting paddle to sample a few of the brews on offer. My favourite was the Behemoth Stay-cation Hazy IPA, which was so juicy. The taps change regularly and Behemoth frequently creates new beers, so each visit is a taste adventure. This was our first visit after the full kitchen opened and I was eager to test the menu. Partnership with A Lady Butcher means this is a great place for meat-lovers. I chose the roast beef sandwich, which was so good. My husband had order envy. His burger was good, but apparently needed seasoning. We didn’t realise the meals came with fries so ordered tater tots as well. They the best with creamy potato filling and a slight bite. Never been here...but I remember someone telling me about it about 3 months ago. The photos look great, and its obvious from the comments that just about everyone enjoys this place! Congratulations to the management and staff members for being so professional, and for creating such a positive experience for the customers! Honestly, I would give just about anything to be able to travel here, and try one of those amazing looking burgers! Not sure if anyone will read this comment or not, but I'm sitting here in Houston, Texas USA, wishing that I could afford to get on a flight and visit the fine folks at this establishment! ...
