This is a review of the reception we received from the two young women on duty on Sunday, February 9. I want to preface this by saying that I usually do not post a bad review - there are so many, that I try to post only when I receive exceptionally good service - so this is very out of the ordinary for me. When we were told that the kitchen had closed, my partner asked if they knew of any other spots nearby that might still be open. They suggested a pizza spot and then further noted that it is an American style pizza place, so we'd feel right at home. This statement was also delivered with a sneer. I am amazed that anyone today - and especially young people - would be assume that they knew where someone had travelled from. I would say that the more correct and inclusive way to respond might be to ask first where someone was travelling from, rather than assuming. Further, I'm not sure why they think that someone who is travelling would want to "feel at home". I would suggest that is the opposite of the travel experience - those who travel want to get out of their comfort zones and engage in different experiences. In fact, we are Canadian and I found the delivery of their comments to be incredibly condescending. This is not the first time on this trip, or on others, that I've been referred to as American. Usually, I simply smile and politely inform people that actually I am Canadian. But the manner in which these young women spoke to us was unbelievably rude. I was fuming for hours after. I just hope if they ever leave their ten square blocks, that they are as polite as we were when they are referred to as Australians. This was a very...

I have written very few bad reviews and reviews generally but I felt I needed to write this given my experience tonight. I visited this venue this evening with my son, daughter and a close friend. We are local and live on Windmill Road. We also caught up with three other locals who have been loyal customers for many years. I would say we have been frequent visitors for the last 10-15 years. We love this place but tonight we were made to feel very unwelcome. On a Saturday night many of the locals come to have a meal and watch the Rugby. Part way through the game of Waikato vs Highlanders the channel was changed to watch the soccer by the manager. A few of us asked the Manager if he could keep it on the rugby. He said he would not do so as he believed that given we live in Auckland we should watch the Auckland soccer team and this was his decision. I recognized he was French and having lived in France I suggested to him that most of the locals generally followed Rugby not soccer as they would in Northern France. He was dismissive and rude. the party I was with and a number of others were not accustomed to his approach and decided to leave albeit we were hoping to stay for the live music and make a night of the evening. Very disappointed in the attitude and approach of the manager. After many, many years, myself and I suspect many other locals will be finding a new place to watch the rugby on Friday and Saturday evenings and spend our money. Disappointing as the food and service is so good and this has been a good local for many years. Thx for the good years but it now seems it...

Menu looked good so I decided to try it out. It's a nice pub atmosphere, but the service was awful. Ordered food and drink at the bar, pointed to where we were seated, and was told that they'd have to get one of the drinks from downstairs. 15 min later, no drink.

I told the guy at the bar that we were waiting on a drink for some time, and he just responds "yeah, that drink comes from the downstairs bar". I know, but it shouldn't take 15 min to pour a beer and bring it upstairs. 10 more minutes pass and the lady who took our order said "I'm sorry, did you order food?" "Uhh yes" "What was it again?"

Unbelievable. Food finally arrives after more waiting. Definitely not worth the wait. Cheap coleslaw and soggy chips. The fish was fine, but nothing great. Also, as we received our food they told another table that they were out of burgers and mussels (over half the menu pretty much). This was also after that table had been ignored for quite some time as well. I get that a lot of places are short staffed, but they seemed to have quite a few people working and it wasn't even packed. Very...

We visited on July 21st thinking it was a Belgian Day Special offering half-price mussels, as advertised on their flyer. However, when we arrived, we saw a large sign outside the restaurant stating that it’s a regular Monday deal. So it wasn’t actually a Belgian Day special at all, which was very misleading given how the flyer promoted it. Also, the flyer didn’t mention any drink purchase requirement, but we were told we had to buy a cold drink to get the mussel discount. We don’t drink soda or alcohol, so we asked if iced coffee was okay, but were told it wasn’t. We ended up ordering two $8 juices just to qualify — and didn’t even drink half of them. Additionally, we were disappointed to find that adding sauce to the steamed mussels cost extra, and the half-price deal didn’t apply to those options — none of this was explained in the promotion. Overall, we felt misled by the advertising and unclear conditions. Hopefully, they make their future promotions more accurate and transparent.

Spent the afternoon there on Christmas eve with family. Too-loud jangly christmas music and not alot of attention from the staff. The $18 (on special?) small magarita was too sour to drink. My partner's steak was dry/overcooked, the squid only okay, and my buffalo chicken burger, described as being mildly spicy like sweet thai chili sauce, was closer to a NZ medium, inedible for me, and was 2 dried hunks of chicken in a bun they toasted - who the heck does that these days? So it was hard and dried out. No other sauces. My family's burgers were alao dry and very boring-looking. Will never go again. It was packed out, surprisingly, perhaps because they do have many types of Euro beers.
