I moved here from Denver, Colorado (known for its breweries), so when a friend recommended Urbanaut’s tour, I blew it off for awhile, figuring I’d been on 20 tours before, what else is there to learn. How wrong I was! We came on Valentine’s Day for a tour, and got to walk places and see and touch and smell things a liability waiver would never let you do in the States. Pair that with the 6 full tasters they give you (2 during the tour and then pick your own 4 afterwards). Great history, and once you taste the beer, it’s not surprising that these aren’t just some home brewing rookies who set-up shop.

They have a fun, informal twist on a meat and cheese platter, and plenty of comfy, funky seating. Not as much of a set-up for kids as Brother’s, but there’s a nice park right across the street I ran across to for a quick play with my toddler. Also super happy to see a dog friendly establishment. Dogs and beers just go together in my mind.

Oh! The beer!! Sorry, was just so impressed by the people and the ambiance. I did the tour with my husband, so after 8 beers combined, we can report that all were solid and there wasn’t a single bad pick. Their Copacabana Brut IPA really stood out. I’ve been out of the drinking game for a bit with having a baby and all, so I’m not sure if this is the new thing and I’ve just missed it, but the Apple IPA they brewed with Morningcider blew my mind! We got a couple cans (with Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys for all the Canadian lovers out there!) to take home. Can’t wait to come back and try some of their dark beers...

2 weeks ago I came with my partner and her brother who was visiting us from Wellington, having recently started eating meat since being vegan we were super keen to show him our favourite burger in Auckland and man it did not disappoint!! The smash burgers here absolutely rock! The beers also were absolutely lovely we both had the stout which was super!

Our visit however was slightly soured by the gentleman at the bar who 45 minutes before close, as we walked in, rather rudely told us that we were too late and last call had been made and we wouldn’t be able to be served!

Standing there rather perplexed we were instantly reassured by a lovely lady who apologised fairly profusely for her colleague and assured us we could sit down for a drink and also food. It was a bit of a shame to be spoken to like that as we were not expecting to sit down for 2+ hours and had left plenty of time to eat a burger, drink a beer and evacuate before the bar closed.

I’d like to thank the lady who served us that day as she really did set us at ease. I will definitely be returning as this is my favourite brewery and burger in Auckland (hence the 5 star review) but would like to see a different attitude the next time as it was a pretty unwarranted and strange confrontational attitude...

I went for a tour and tasting at Ubernaut Brewery and Taproom.

We got an up-close look at the craft of brewing, learned about the brewing process, discovered why craft beer has transformed the industry, and what makes their brews stand out.

During the tour we tasted a pilsner from the one of the ice cold tanks. It still had a lot of sediment and a lot of yeast. It tasted like liquid bread.

We saw how beer is made from barley to bottle (can actually) and how the East Indian Company influenced the use of hops and how Indian Pale Ale (IPA) was born. The canning and labeling process was also very interesting.

We had a very knowledgeable and passionate guide, which made the tour very engaging.

There is an amazing variety of interesting beers, ales, stouts, sours, and ciders. My favourite was the salted caramel stout, strawberry sours, and blueberry cheesecake IPA. It was rounded ofd with some bacon chips (if you book through Grab One).

It's the perfect tour for people who enjoy beer or even if you don't, because these flavours are very interesting and tasty, there's sure to be something to tickle your fancy.

Side note: I was very impressed with their extensive vegetarian and...

My first visit to an eating/drinking establishment since lockdown started and it was a great choice. Super tasty range of beers on tap. While we’re in Level 2, they have two set tasting options with 6 different beers in each set. We got one of each. My favourite was the Yeastie Boys Digital IPA, which I used to drink a few years ago and had forgotten about. The Urbanaut Williamsburg IPA was also near the top of the list. There’s no served food at the moment, only snack options so a bag of rosemary & thyme kept us happy. They often have a food truck onsite, so we’ll need to come back for that. A couple of people dropped by for takeaway, but other than that we had the place to ourselves. No worries about physical distancing. The bar area is inside a brewery so you share the space with large tanks. Furnishings remind me of a 70s childhood. I want to go back. Often.
