Worst dining experience of my life (even worse than that one time in India where my brother got a chunk of glass sticking out of his meal).
Terrible service with different staff coming each time and no idea what we had ordered.
Two members of our table ordered dishes with the No Gluten Added option (great that this was on the menu though!) and when the server bought the dish out we asked if it was the gluten free version, server said yes it was. The two people allergic to gluten then started to eat the dish before the server came back and said sorry this is not the gluten free version. They then said they’d take it back and bring back the gluten free version; we asked them not to bring back the dish at all (it was also way too salty, would not pay $24 for it even if it was the correct dish). They then served the dish again after we had asked them not to. We took it home in a doggy bag to at least compost it instead of chucking it in land fill.
The bang bang chicken was a joke. Pile of cold minced chicken saturated in sauce. I would say it tasted like the sauce just came from a can but to be honest i expect a company selling a bottled product would have a better ability to balance flavour than the kitchen hand who made this.
The aubergine was actually really nicely cooked, good amount of char. They’re joking with charging $18 for 1/3rd of an aubergine though. Once again the sauce was too salty.
They nailed it with charging $22 for 150g of sickly sweet and overly salty tofu drowned in the same sauce as some of the other dishes with 30g of carrot on the side. The green carrot tops (2 total) were easily the best part of any dish we ordered, i loved them.
Edamame was nice. Dumplings were decent.
A drink was brought out that was not ordered and the server clearly expected us to take it. One of our party took it and drank it in an attempt to not embarrass the server.
All dishes were brought out with huge random spacing between them so party members were left eating with everyone else watching hungrily. Due to the low quality of food those looks of hunger usually turned in to looks of pity.
When we went to pay there was a $27 dish added to the bill that we did not order.
The total bill for this foul shambles of a meal was over $260 for four people. You would get better service, quality, and serving size from a dirty $12/dish hole in the wall takeaway joint.
I’ve never complained in a restaurant in my life but felt the need to do so here. Props to the server for giving us 50% off. I really appreciate that and hope the management and chef take note of the issues for future.
It felt like the kind of place where the owners and management do not care and sadly that rolls down hill. I feel sorry for the staff who have to put up with such incompetent management and i hope they don’t get blamed for this. This was clearly a result of a lack of training and quality management.
The decor was nice.
Oh and I’m now extremely bloated and writing this...
Read moreWe recently visited Wu & You in Mt Eden for their bottomless lunch, with a booking for 3 people at 3:15 PM. We were about 10 minutes late but called ahead, and the staff kindly let us know it was okay which we appreciated. On arrival, we were seated in a quieter part of the restaurant, away from the main atmosphere. We had really hoped to be closer to the music and vibe, which seemed to be happening out the back. Unfortunately, the area we were in felt a bit flat, and the high chairs we were seated on weren’t the most comfortable. Our server a polite young woman greeted us, but she was quite hard to hear and not very clear in her communication. We wanted to start with a drink of our choice, but she explained the bottomless always begins with their Blueberry Bomb cocktail. Unfortunately, it really wasn’t pleasant. It tasted quite off and wasn't a great start to the experience. The food, however, was amazing! Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. We truly enjoyed every bite and have to give credit to the kitchen team. Where things really fell short was the drink service. It was incredibly slow, and we found ourselves waiting too long between refills. Over the entire 90-minute session, we each only had about 5 drinks and it often felt like we were being overlooked. Compared to other bottomless experiences we’ve tried, this one felt underwhelming and a bit frustrating. When something is marketed as “bottomless,” you expect a fun, upbeat atmosphere and service that keeps the drinks flowing without needing to chase staff. Also, having music only outside really took away from the vibe inside we could only hear ourselves and the table behind us. Overall, the food was excellent, but the vibe and slow service didn’t justify the price or live up to the "bottomless" promise. Wu & You has potential, but they need to improve the atmosphere and drink service if they want this experience to...
Read moreQuite disappointed with our bottomless brunch that 14 of us attended on the 13/10/24. I had sent an email to advise of how our experience was and the only response we had back is for me (one person) to go back and bottomless is on the house. I appreciate the offer however, it’s not good enough. I was the one that recommended Wu & You to my friends that went so I’m really upset that everyone had a crap time. I’ve visited Wu & You around 6 times just this year for several occasions. Every single brunch has been great, the service and food both have usually been excellent. We had a farewell brunch on the 13/10/24 for one of our friends and quite honestly we were all disappointed with everything overall. The atmosphere, service and food were all below average. I’ve worked in hospitality in the past so I understand staffing can be a challenge and there’s so many things that go on behind the scenes but we as customers also spent a decent amount of money collectively. I was the one that organised this brunch and said it’s better to go to a place where I know the service is amazing, the drinks are great and food is delicious every single time. This was not the case, almost everyone that ordered chicken burgers literally didn’t even eat half because it was so dry and tasteless. Our waitress wasn’t really interested in serving our drinks either and that’s mainly what we were there for to be fair. I definitely do not believe it was worth $65 per person and I don’t think any of us will be back again due to this situation and the way it has been handled. We’ve been to many other bottomless places and we’ve never had such a bad experience where literally everyone is...
