Great cakes and sandwiches but the cafe was filthy. We had driven a long way especially for this cake shop - based on its reputation. And the food was good. But the cafe was really dirty - the worst I've ever seen anywhere. The only table without dirty dishes or crumbs, we sat down but I had to use a serviette to wipe the crumbs of my seat. When I sat down I noticed a dirty serviette right next to me and on the filthy table next to me - a dirty serviette on the floor to my right. Looking out the window to the harbour the view was interrupted by dirty dishes and crumbs everywhere on the window bench. Every table was dirty and the floor was disgusting. We had paid before we noticed this otherwise we would have got takeaway. While sitting, we noticed four people working. One at the front, three out the back - so no shortage of staff. The girl at the front went on to clean the glass cabinet but then sat down for her break and seemed not to notice the dirt. A young guy came out for his break and sat at the window with dishes and crumbs all around him - did not seem to notice either. I will never go back there and I wondered how many customers do they loose because of the unkept and unclean tables. This was a weekday and the place was not busy. I also wondered if it is this dirty at the front - what are the kitchen cooking conditions at the back? Really dirty and I don't say this lightly. I was really shocked - lucky their good...
Read moreI have been coming to this bakery for years now and I took my partner for the first time today and we loved it!! The creative flavours for the doughnuts, cookie pies, cheesecakes, stuffed cookies, and cakes are amazing, I wish my stomach was bigger so I could try them all!! The bakery itself has a handful of tables and chairs inside but can get cramped and a bit noisy when there's lots of people, especially if the line gets backed up a bit so I'd recommend trying to come either a little before or after lunch to beat that rush. I ate my food too quickly to snap a pick, but the banoffee doughnut, smores stuffed cookie, and mince and cheese pie were all beautiful. Definitely a bit higher on the price, but that is to be expected and I think it's reasonable once you try them ahaha. I definitely recommend and will be making another trip out to Lyttelton in the not-so-far future to try some more....
Read moreAbsolutely love visiting here. It's important to note they are incredibly popular and I would recommend going earlier in the day (before 11am) to get the best selection, the store can be typically sold out before 2pm and some times before midday! The pricing is varied depending on what you are purchasing, something more simple like a jam doughnut will be closer to $5 where one of their more decadent options will be up above $7. It's definitely worth a stop for the unique take on doughnuts and the wonderful township of Lyttelton accompanied with the views! They also offer a selection of savoury items like sandwiches, rolls and pies and other sweet varieties along with beverages (such as coffee and refrigerated items). The staff are alway friendly and attentive. The seating can be a little cramped when it gets quite busy but don't let...
