Tonight we ventured out for a 'date-night', and, I only took ONE photo, because our night was so immersive, and enjoyable on every level, my phone stayed in my bag. We went to 5th Street, and booked in for the Chef's Bar dining option. This wasn't just a dining session where exquisite cuisine is beautifully crafted, but a show! We had full entertainment the entire evening, and could preview all of the meals being constructed right in front of us. We spoke through ingredients, and options, alterations. Our drinks were taken by the same chef entertaining us, and creatively building artistic food all around us. We were in awe. The wine list menu was huge, if that's what you enjoy. Tonight I treated myself to a delicious mocktail called 'Sweet', and it had raspberries, lemon, and pineapple. It was delicious! The whole intention of 5th Street is to share. So they have plate sizes which accommodate this process. Good luck choosing! From the small plates we had: Stracciatella (Where the holy heckery has this cheese gods of goodness been all my life?!), & the Fried chicken. From the Medium plates, we chose to do half-sized plates of: Roasted Carrots, and, Triple Cooked Agria, and, much to my disgust... Jase got the Fried Brussel Sprouts. For our large plate/main, we selected the: Roasted Lamb Shoulder. This lamb literally just melted, you could use a butter knife it was that moist and tender. Heaven! The food we ordered definitely could have easily fed 3 people, and we've come home with a doggy bag. The sauces/accompaniments that were on each of these dishes were absolutely mind blowing! The flavours were Full, Fresh and so Morish. I am honestly going to have dreams about that stracciatella for days. I've never heard nor tasted it before and it was something from a fairytale. 5th Street use locally made buffalo stracciatella, and apparently it makes all the difference compared to cow's milk. I might have to start doing some shopping for this cheese because I can't imagine my life without it ever again. If you want to go out for an adult night out of truly sensational dining, then I highly recommend you go and try out 5th Street. Be brave, and book the Chef's Bar dining option, you won't regret it (just don't dress warm 🥵 because you're near heat lamps and grills)! I can't wait for a special occasion to justify making another booking back there again soon. Believe me when I say that the items are well worth the money you pay, as is the fabulous aesthetic and customer service. Thank you 5th Street for a wonderful...
Read moreI hope it was just me. The food was average to good, but the service was terrible.
We booked at 5:30pm for 3ppl, no one mentioned to me we only got 2 hours for the table - Not on the phone nor when we arrived.
At 7:00pm, one of the wait staff told us that "our table has booked for another people at 7:30pm. but we are not in a rush". We were shocked cause we didn't know that we only have 2 hours for the table and nobody told us before also our mains was literally just served! Then around 10 minutes later, she came again and said she will move us to the lounge and we can have our dessert there. And then around 7:25pm, she came back again and asked if she can taking some plates out, we said we were still eating and apparently our plates wasn't empty at all! She said she will need the table very soon. Alright, we then move to the lounge and have our dessert there. I actually booked this restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday but ended up like this, very disappointed.
Food - We ordered two small plates and 1 medium plate, they were both really good. Only problem with the Char-grilled tomahawk, the wait staff didn't ask how would I like for the steak and it turns out a bit dry, it was a medium well I would say. I suppose they will ask the customer how would they like for the steak consider we are...

Drinks: We ordered three lagers and two cocktails. 'Tiger Milk' lager stood out—boldly bitter with rich maltiness. The 'Yuzu Bon Bon' cocktail was a must-try: not overly sweet, with smooth yuzu sake and frothy egg white creating perfect layers. 'Pear Spritz' leaned too sweet but highlighted vodka well.
Small Plates: -Scallops & Prawns— Absolute highlight! Tender, flavorful, paired with zesty sauce and grilled bread for a creamy, umami explosion. Would’ve reordered if we had room! Hummus & Beetroot— A harmonious combo. Market Fish Tartare— Fresh but raw; avoid if raw fish isn’t your preference.
Medium Plates: Half-portions of 'Shaved Brussels Sprouts 'and 'Shiitake & Oyster Mushrooms' were underwhelming. Might try other options next time.
Large Plates: Coastal Lamb Shoulder' — Meltingly tender, no gaminess. A must for lamb lovers!
Desserts Chocolate Mousse'—intensely rich, paired with pistachio-vanilla mousse (lightly sweet, nutty crunch). Divine!
Ambience Chic and intimate, ideal for dates/special occasions. We sat at the bar (walk-in), enjoying kitchen action and skilled bartenders—fun vibe!
A top-tier Christchurch restaurant. Don’t miss the seafood...
