I recently visited Birria Boss on their South Island tour! Words can’t describe how awesome the food was and overall experience! I was met by the two loveliest people (the owners) who were so friendly and enthusiastic but not in a pushy sales person way! They really care about each customer and taking the time to make sure each customer is happy and tended too! The price of the tacos is a great deal! $22 for 3 tacos including consommé, I also got the Birria ramen which was also packed full of flavour! I love supporting small businesses and especially ones owned and managed by women. Their new stall in the Colombo is beautifully designed, and exceptionally clean. As it is recently built, they have all new clean features and appliances, the staff are very lovely and you can tell they’re well looked after. I can’t recommend this place enough! If you’re in Christchurch, go and check it out!

The wait was extremely long and was slow wait time which is understandable as there were lotsa ppls. Putting this aside, the tacos and the birria. I was not a fan unfortunately _~.. The filling was overpowered by the cheese, the meat had v barely any flavour and the sauce was flavourless and tasted like water. Im not sure if it was an off day but there are soo many elements missing from the tacos. For example salsa, some sort of spice element and some flavours in the taco. In my humble opinion too, the cheese ruined it for me as well. As someone who is a bit lactose intolerant (call me weak,, but this doesn’t stop me) I was a bit surprised. It was FULL of cheese, but not in the good way :(. The owner seems lovely but as a food critique, I cannot approve of this taco...
My partner and I tried their Birria Tacos for the first time and paid for $25 ($3 for sauce)
There was a sign on the truck stating the long 30min wait due to high demand and we were informed of it too which was fine for us because we’ve been wanting to try it since it’s so popular on instagram! The lady who served us was very friendly as well:)
However, we were very disappointed when we got our Birria Tacos… The first taco we consumed, had a very ashy burnt taste to it regardless if we dipped it in their special sauce or not, we thought it was just that first taco until we ate the other two, it had the same taste which was quite upsetting. We gave some to our friend to see if it was just us who tasted the burnt ash flavour but he said the same thing!
For $25 we were expecting a really good batch of tacos but ended up quite displeased. However there’s always room for...
