Mexicali Fresh Spitfire Square — Restaurant in Christchurch

Unfortunately Mexicali is not what it use to be. Portion sizes are smaller, food is not so flavoursome and they changes have been made to ‘add on’ simple things like guacamole and jalapeños which use to be included in some meals. I use to recommend Mexicali to my work colleagues, often grabbing dinner on their way home, but will no longer recommend due to these recent and obvious skimp changes. I bought a cheese Quesadilla, which states online comes with cabbage mix, choice of sauce and guacamole however the guacamole no longer comes with this, which needs to be updated on uber. I received a thin, barely filled cheese quesadilla with a teaspoon of guac, for $17. My taco salad was flavourless, and dry, no longer containing jalapeño as it is now $2 to add on, likewise for the staple ingredient like corn. I understand the cost of food and produce has risen, and I also understand nothing is ‘free’ in this world, however when people are paying premium price ($28 online for salad, $17 for cheese tortilla) the expectation is that it is worth the price. My feedback via phone was that the store needs to update the inclusions, as I was told “guacamole does not come with the cheese quesadillas” however he will “add it this time” , there was no apology for forgetting the guac the previous 4x. CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP. and what I ordered was not matching to what is advertised on the website, social media and it might perhaps breach of advertisement. Ordered Buritto without the wrap. The new/junior/non owner asked me if I wanted to use the square or the bowel for my order. I chose the bowel. He then went to asked his manager or owner to check. The manager or owner came and asked if I want some brown rice and he told the staff to charge more. I assume you will be informed the charge of extra. I checked Mexicali Fresh website N.Z. after I got home. There are picutres of Buritto in bowels showing this particular order comes with bowel on Mexicali Fresh website and facebook- see the post on March 2024. I went to Mexicali Fresh Spitfire Square because it was a good place in quality of food , selection and type of food matches with dietary requirements. Last two visits were great, staffs back then were great, serving size reflected to the price point.

I went to Mexicali Fresh Spitfire Sqaure based on the good reputation from my own personal experiences and the reputation/MEXICALI FRESH. HOWEVER, now I will not, not even to trust and purchase anything from Mexicali Fresh other branches. Will upload photos later...

Like many other reviews, I have noticed a lack of consistency. For almost 20 bucks a burrito, it's too random now for me to risk spending my money on. This time round I had the California Burrito. The serving was generous (I've had some tiny ones before) which was the only good thing i can say. Cold. Bland, flavourless chicken, rice and beans. Salad starting to go off, smells rank.
