Had dinner here, and the overall experience is somewhat okay. Like the decor, servers are friendly, but mixed reviews for each food component. So let’s break it down
Sashimi - well plated, with very fresh ingredients. Highly recommend this.
Karaage - not sure what they marinated this with, but it surely doesn’t taste anything like karaage, but it taste like just fried chicken.. not in a very tasty way, even with the condiments.
Tempura - nice selection of vegetable, the coating falls off too easily, but at least it taste good enough. But! Please use a larger bowl for the dipping sauce, you can barely get any on it with the awkward tiny square plate. Cute sauce plate, but not practical.
Tepanyaki - ordered the set dish, and the appetiser was a small bowl of fried chicken strip, which is just meh tbh. Vegetable could use a better seasoning, it didn’t taste very good. Lamb is nicely done. Beef is overcooked, requested done level (medium-rare is close to well done). But at least it is still tender and flavourful. Chicken is nicely done. Seafood is of okay level. Miso soup, served wayyyyyyy too hot
Drinks, nice selection of sake and tap beers of fair prices.
Now to the environment, it is a tepanyaki restaurant, so it is expected that smell will get to your clothings and hair, so no issue with that.
HOWEVER! A big thumbs down for the tepanyaki chef performance, they are doing so many thing in an exaggerated way, making lesser of an enjoyable performance, more of annoying presence. For example, there is no need for you to constantly knock your seasoning shaker so loud, every time you season something with salt and pepper. If you wanna make some noise, at least make it sound rhythmic, don’t make it sound like children doing tantrums with their utensils (cuz that’s what it feels like dining there, I’m more irritated than I am entertained).
Overall the experience is okay-ish. There is definitely room for...
Read moreWell I have been to all Teppanyaki restaurants in Christchurch and loved them all. I thought for a change to try this relatively new restaurant and this was my experience here. I ordered the meat lovers and my 2 daughters ordered the chicken. I got a fried chicken dish as a starter (This is chefs choice) and was very nice but only warm. The chicken my daughters and I got was excellent and well cooked. The lamb that came as part of my meat lovers was served nearly raw, I sent this back and got a new serving and the first piece was perfect but the second was again nearly raw. I wasn't going to send it back a second time. The eye fillet, the third part of my dish was severed a perfect medium rear but I asked for medium but I did enjoy. We upgraded our steam rice for fired rice, this lacked flavor and was basically steamed rice fried with egg terrible. The miso soup that I would normally love was served very slightly warm, and if you know miso it has be served hot. The veg cam to our table and was slightly warm again and lacked flavor. Its not had to get this type of cooking right so not sure whats going on. Overall I loved decor but that was it. Even the service was not terrible but far from good. I won't be visiting...
Read moreI dont usually write any reviews for a place or a restaurant, but I have to address this one.
A couple health and safety things to address: I slipped while I was walking to the table, and I mentioned there was water on the floor. No further action taken.
When a waiter was serving the other customers by the teppanyaki table, he stepped back and almost tripped himself over by the unsecured carpet on the ground.
Food: I was served with a glass of coke, with an unknown item flooding up and down inside it. They apologised and changed to another one.
I asked for midium rear for my NZ fillet, I ended up with medium well. I’m not a fan with over cooked fillet.
Service: It’s a bit pricey with the quantity they offer, if you do wish to try teppanyaki, please do more research.
I requested to sit by the teppanyaki table, the waitress said those spots are reserved, when we finished our dinner, those 8 reserved seats were still empty. Need to work on organisation skills in the further. You may say, “yes, you may sit there, however the next 8 customers are arriving @ 7.30.”
Other than that, waitress are...
