My flight into Christchurch was severely delayed, which in turn meant I missed my next flight. Travel Insurance to the rescue, they told me to book a Hotel for the night, and fly out the next morning. Usually stay at the Sudima, but I have wanted to stay at the Novotel for a long time, so this was the perfect opportunity. Whilst waiting for my Bags I went online and quickly booked a room. Certainly more pricier than other Hotels in the Airport area, especially if you want a room with a view over the Runway/Tarmac. At least with the Novotel however, it is a very short, straightforward walk across the terminal to the Hotel. Baggage collected at the Regional Gates, it took only a few minutes to walk across the Airport to the Hotel. Despite only booking online moments before, the friendly young lady at Reception already had my room allocated. Decent information about the Restaurant and where things were located. My Standard Room was on the Fourth Floor looking out over the Carpark, and to some of the Regional Tarmac Area in the distance. The room offers excellent first impressions. Clean, Well appointed, fresh and modern. It was also really quite spacious for what was only a standard room. Bathroom was really funky, that could be opened up for a more open plan feel, or closed in with large sliding doors/walls. Toilet and Shower were separated with glass doors. Small Tea and Coffee station with the usual affair. The fridge was a really weird pull out draw affair. Quite awkward to store stuff in it. Especially the bags of Kaimoana brought from home to share with family up North. It was quite noisey for a time there, with doors banging in the corridor, and people congregating with loud voices. Thankfully by midnight it seemed die down. Being an Airport Hotel, people do tend to come and go quite a bit. The Bed was extremely comfortable, with good quality and clean linen. Large TV on the wall with options for normal TV viewing, Casting your phone to it, or choosing a movie from a large online library the Hotel has. No extra costs. Internet access was simple to connect to, and I had no issues streaming and downloading with it. Room Service could be ordered by scanning a QR Code on the wall in the room. Very easy to use, with the items just charged back to your room. I ordered dinner from the Restaurant to be delivered. There didn't really seem to be a lot of options. I was hankering for a decent Burger, but all the options tended to be a bit more 'High End'. I settled on a Chicken dish. Got a phone call on the in room phone about 15mins later to say the Food was on its way down from the Restaurant. Delivered to my door moments later. The food was actually really nice. Loads of flavour and well presented. Dinner and a non alcoholic drink cost around $55 including the $5 Room Service Fee. I slept well when the bulk of the noise from the Hallway died down. Early check out to make my 6am Check In at the Regional end of the Terminal. Gent on the desk was friendly enough, and got me check out quickly. Invoice sent through to my email address instantly. All in all, a brilliant stay here at the Christchurch Airport Novotel. The rooms (even the standard ones) are high quality, well appointed, clean and comfortable. The location is brilliant, with the Terminal being literally right next door. Will definitely be returning back here. Definitely recommend to all. :)

You really can’t beat the location — it’s less than a five-minute stroll from the airport to the hotel lobby, along paths designed so you can just roll your bags straight in. Super convenient. Because of that brilliant location, we were able to check in, wander down to the International Antarctic Centre (highly recommend), enjoy a lovely dinner in the restaurant, have a good night’s sleep, and then a solid buffet breakfast to set us up for the day. After checkout, it was just a short walk back to the airport to pick up our rental car — which saved us paying for a first day’s hire we didn’t need. The staff really stood out — every interaction was warm, friendly, and very “New Zealand.” Our room looked out over the bus car park but also had a bonus view of the snow-capped mountains in the distance. We loved the refillable glass water jug, with filter stations near the lifts on each floor where you could choose ambient, chilled, or sparkling water. Breakfast on the sixth floor came with brilliant views over the runway and out to the mountains. There was a big variety to choose from, though it did lose a tiny point for two things: barista coffee came at an extra charge, and the poached eggs had set yolks instead of runny. Both minor, but worth noting. Otherwise, the stay was excellent. Rooms were quiet, air conditioning worked well, the beds were really comfortable with nice linens, and the shower was honestly one of the best I’ve had anywhere. We also loved the scent of the provided shampoo, conditioner, and lotions — small details that made a difference. Overall, the Novotel Christchurch Airport was the perfect place to kick off our New Zealand trip. If anything, we'd subtract half a star for the paid barista coffee ($7 for a large soy latte) and those firm poached eggs. However, we’d happily recommend it and would definitely stay again.

Whilst our room was great, the check in and out was easy, the bar was lovely, and then there was a shift change. I never got our new bar man, and later on waiters name, but he was rude when taking an order at the bar, and later when advised of an issue with the food, he then never told anyone or did anything. He then later turned up at our table with a beer my step father never ordered and claimed he did, when clearly was told when he asked, no thank you I'm done. Food wise, it's very pretty to look at, but was missing flavour wise. We both had the smoked venison. The only smoke this venison has seen was the chef having a dart on his break. No smoke flavour at all. My step father couldn't finish his due to some grissel. It's random when the thing with the most flavour on the plate was the cabbage. After this I had to request a dessert menu after the water in question passed us 4 or 5 times without stopping. My dessert was ok, but the mousse looked amazing, but was very light on flavour again. When paying we mentioned the feedback on the venison, but got a standard I'll let the chef know. All up, a bit over priced based on what we got. If the food was as written and full of flavour, then the price would have been fine, but the quality was a let down. One of those times where it looked amazing, but was really average. Room was great, hotel was well priced and shower rocked. All up hotel 5 stars, restaurant 2 stars

Well, where to start. The rooms itself were okay as expected. The view wasn't much as there really wasn't much point at staring at the carpark or other buildings. Although their sky tower was a laugh. You had to be there.

The lobby was draped and spacious. The front desk personnel were non-inviting and somewhat well, not rude but unwelcoming. They could improve on their hospitality, especially working in a hotel.

The bar service was adequate, although I had trouble explaining what the lemon and salt were for. When the drinks were served, they gave me the wrong salt to accompany my shots. The lemons were what they were okay but more sour than usual.

The food ordered took about 40-60 minutes to be served, and when it did arrive, my first thoughts were I could have cooked it myself. Being hungry, tipsy, and tired it was what it was.

The steak wasn't medium well as ordered it seemed medium rare. The mushroom sauce tasted like it was made from a can. The wedges were as expected. The broccolini was limp and overcooked, and not all that appetising. The garlic bread was disappointing. It lacked flavour and colour, not appealing at all.

The restaurant felt cold, and that was with the people inside there. The atmosphere could have been better, and I could have had better company, but that's another review.

The guests across the hall from me were loud and obnoxious whilst on the phone and banging around in their room, which could also be heard from my room. It was loud and just all round terrible.

Breakfast with what I had on my plate was okay. The hot stuff was warm and okay, but nothing you write home about. But the fruit I had in the bowl with different yoghurt was a little sour. That's on me, I should have known better.

One of the guests at our table was being harassed by staff about payment for breakfast. Which could have been sorted afterwards and not turned into an argument whilst we were trying to eat our breakfast.

The upsetting and unpleasant experience at breakfast was some man yelling profanities across the restaurant to our table, and no one said anything to him. We all got up and left the table upset and that none of us had finished our breakfast. His behaviour towards us was appalling and should have been stopped immediately, and it was not.

We checked out earlier than anticipated and retrieved our vehicle whilst others were still sorting out their checkout. I'm not sure I would personally stay there again, but I guess everyone's experiences are different. This was mine.

My highlight was the dessert - Creme brulee with...
