In response to the establishment’s comments:
We walked in and were offered a table in the bar (available for walk-ins with no reservation). Part way through our starter, management said “good news, we have a table for you in the restaurant “. My wife and I said “thank you, but we are quite comfortable here”. Management proceeded to tell us that they had seated us at a table for four and that they wanted to sit another party of four (also no reservation), so it would be best if we moved. We graciously agreed to pick up our meal and move. However, after moving, we did not see a server or the rest of our meal for about an hour. We would have understood if they couldn’t seat us from the start. It was a poor decision on management’s part to move us when they were already beyond the capacity they could handle.
We had high hopes. Unfortunately, they accepted more tables than they could manage. They even moved my wife and I to make room for more people. Food took an hour, glasses left empty for 15+ min, and some cucumber and tomato in the Greek salad were noticeably sparse which made it far too salty. Not terrible, but not what you expect given the price and reviews. Trio of dips and pita was great...
Read moreFrom the moment you walk into The Athens Yacht Club, you’re transported to a beautifully modern and cozy slice of Greece right in the heart of Christchurch. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, with elegant décor and a lively, yet relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a date night or a classy dinner with friends.
We started our evening with the flaming saganaki — a must-try! Not only is it a visual showstopper, but the taste is rich, salty, and satisfying. The grilled halloumi and dips platter were fresh and authentic, and the prawns were perfectly crisp and flavorful. Every dish was presented with care and cooked to perfection. Portions were generous without compromising quality.
The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to enjoy sharing Greek culture through food. The service matched the food — top notch. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches like the fireplace and private dining room options, making the space feel even more intimate.
Their cocktails are just as memorable as their food, so don’t miss out. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Greek flavors with a modern twist.
Will definitely be back — Christchurch is lucky to...
Read moreWe had a party of 13. Served banquet style. I guess you could call it tapas style or tasting plates.
3 courses, all coming with great tastes, more than sufficient in quantity; our collective bellies were no where big enough to do the vast quantities justice.
Wait staff were efficient, friendly, discreet and well organised. I think it must have been their maitre D, interacting with our organiser (👍👍 to Louise) that made the whole evening a complete indulgence.
Possibly the wine and beer list might have offered more choice, but that would be picky. It was very busy so ambient noise matched the guest numbers but never seemed overpowering.
Possibly not quite the ideal venue for an intimate one on one but great for families, work groups etc.
I'd like to visit again just with my wife to try a la carte choosing specific s
There was no Ouzo-soaked table dancing which was nice too.
I will definitely go again.
Ps there is a car park entrance on Victoria St just south of the premises (which are the old Saggio Di Vinio).
May the restaurant very much succeed. I will...
