Subway — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

The Takapuna (North-shore)Subway is hands down one of the worst fast food experiences I’ve ever had. The food is absolutely revolting from the moment you walk in, it’s clear that quality and care are nowhere to be found. I ordered a footlong sub with three pepper chicken, expecting a warm, flavorful meal. Instead, they slapped cold, flavorless chicken on dry bread that crumbled all over me with every bite. The texture was awful, the taste was worse, and it honestly felt like no effort went into making it remotely edible.

To make things even more frustrating, the customer service was terrible. The staff barely spoke, didn’t bother to heat the sandwich, and skimped on every topping. They gave me a sad handful of lettuce, no pickles at all, and barely any vegetables, the bread was more visible than the fillings. For a place that supposedly lets you “build your own sandwich,” it felt like they were rationing ingredients. It’s a complete waste of money and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Ordered a gluten free wrap with turkey online, along with a chicken sub. Arrived 15 min later and waited another 10 while they served the kids in front of us who hadn't bothered to pren order. THEN found out that they were out of both gluten free wraps, AND turkey. Asked if I wanted a refund. Um, no... I want dinner, because you didn't bother to call me to tell me you couldn't do it, so now I'm out of time to go anywhere else. Ended up getting a salad with a meat I don't really like.

Icing on the cake was getting home and finding out they totally botched my husband's sub as well - wrong everything with a bunch of salads he never gets. He actually drove back to get the right one and this one went in the bin.

Crazy. Terrible service and we won't ever go again, I'll skip this place and go to Takapuna even though we'll have to drive...

While I love subway, and the food and service is OK, this branch had a lot of chewing gum on the floor and generally low standards of cleanliness.

The toilet was out of order still, and I believe it was out of order several months ago also (I seem to recall it was out of order last time I was in).

There also were about 5 sparrows just landing on the counter and eating food directly from the areas where food is prepared.

Service was OK, but other stores seem to have more motivation and happier to serve. It feels like things are a bit glum there.

I feel bad pointing these things out, and it's still Subway with good food, but in the event someone got sick, maybe the birds and the cleanliness standards may have something to do with this.
