The good: the service was speedy, mostly professional (more on that later), and helpful when talking about the menu. The place is clean and tidy with plenty of good seats, and the restrooms are fine. The curries and soups were good, and we especially enjoyed the skewered chicken with peanut sauce! The staff were able to accommodate gluten free persons.

The bad: I unfortunately got a large piece of sharp, hard plastic in my soup which I was sharing with my girlfriend. I was very lucky I felt it in my mouth before it cut my gums or, worse, I swallowed it. My girlfriend was lucky she didn't get it in her mouth, either.

The restaurant basically failed to respond to the situation in the appropriate way. We pointed out the shard of plastic to a waiter, and he just took it and said sorry. We had to ask him if he can replace our soup, which he did. After finishing the meal, now slowly and cautiously, we went to pay for our meal. My girlfriend asked if the soup can be compensated as a courtesy, and the manager said no, but that he will comp 10% of the meal total, which didn't make up for the cost of the soup.

The problem was the responsiveness of the resto: they should have known automatically to replace the soup and we shouldn't have had to ask. The restaurant should have known to comp the hazardous soup (at least!) and we should not have had to ask.

The meal could have gone much differently for us if one of us had been injured by this soup, and I honestly don't think the restaurant would've responded correctly in that case.

Beside all of that, I can't recommend the pad thai or pad sew because they lacked a strong authentic flavor.

I cannot recommend the restaurant, which is sad, because there are great menu items there but I...

Our first night in Te Anau and we were looking for some dinner after a long drive. We first saw the name "Thai Anau" and it made us chuckle, and since thai food seemed to be the one food type we could agree on, we walked in. First positive thing was that the restaurant was half full. We were seated and our orders were taken within 10 minutes. Here is where things went a little awry. We first waited for 30 mins for our drinks, and were paitently waiting, until we noticed that a couple who came in after us received their drinks. I went to the bar and mentioned this to the staff, and here is where the waiter realised he had not handed over our drinks order to the bar. Another 10 mins and our drinks were delivered. Another 30 minutes and no food, and again - people who had come in after us had received theirs, so again noticing this I went to the bar. Another apology and 15 minutes later our food was delivered. I ordered the Vegetables and chicken in Oyster sauce, and this was ok, but the serving was a little small, and while the flavour was strong and non offensive, it lacked a little bit of dimension. My wife ordered the Lemon honey chicken, and again the serving was small, but the flavour was good. Our other diner ordered the Green Thai Curry with Beef, and he really enjoyed the meal, again the same issue with the serving size. We all had rice and agreed that the rice was pretty average, a little dry and somewhat clumpy and cold. All of this could be explained away by the fact that apparently the town had an unexpected influx of people on this particular weekend, and was not expecting the amount of customers they had. Had...

Had high hopes for here given the reviews, ordered thai red curry and what arrived was a cream gravy with very large puddle of red oil throughout the gravy and doesn't look red at all! When asked if this is red, was told yes the oil makes it red?! Also at the start, asked for a tasting of red wine to the waiter and he said yes at the time, later got given a glass and only to be told it was good and that point I had no choice to accept it, tried the wine and tasted like it was opened for a while and very bitter i kindly told the waiter, they did Nothing! Honestly worst thai red curry I've had! Servers seem nice but not sure if they are even bothered but your concerns as they didn't go out their way to say outright they do not offer tastings this was only bought to my attention the second time the waiter came?! So I basically got forced to pay for a wine that I thought I could try but only to get a glass and be told...

It was a quick seating, but took 45+ min to get our food (7.30-8pm on a Monday). The server literally had his fingers dipped in the sauce and was touching the vegetables. When he placed the food on the table the sauce spilled all over the table and my phone. The Flavour did not taste like Thai, but was okeyish for me. My friend really did not like her meal and had lots of burn pieces in her plate. Her exact words were “this is not even a 2/5 stars meal”. I get that the majority of the customers are staying in town only for a couple of nights and there is no intention to develop a regular customer base. But a bit of a bummer for a $50 meal. I did appreciate that they had vegan/vegetarian options and there were a few Thai decorations around. Also, this is a central location. Easy to get to and walk from a parked car.

I choose to dine here because I fancied Thai, I got the sweet and sour chicken with rice to try and it was nice and tasty. The staff were quick to take my order and I didn't have to wait long for my food to come out from the kitchen. I choose to sit at the window so I'd have a nice view of the mountains. The restaurant was quiet as I ate quite early on, I was a solo diner so I prefer it to be quiet anyway. Can't fault anything, tasty food, good view and the price was great, appreciate the friendly staff. I'd recommend this place when you're staying in the area!

I got the vegetable massaman curry, which was delicious. Initially, and without the menu disclosing so, it was served to me with tofu. I am allergic to tofu, so this was a very big problem. If you have any allergies, this is not the place to go. However, the food was quite tasty, the prices good, and the service poor. I think this place would be good for takeout, just check your order before you go. And if you dine in, just make sure you go up to the counter if you need anything because they will not come back to service your table once you have your food.
