I honestly think this may have been the best breakfast I have ever had. I'm a little worried for my future breakfast experiences, really. I had the small kahuna (there was nothing small about it, I'm glad I was hungry! I suspect the big kahuna they offer might comfortably feed a family of four). Big, jucy and flavourful mushrooms, eggs poached to perfection, tasty bacon and sausage, delicious potato cakes (crispy-crunchy on the outside, oh so fluffy on the inside) and perfectly toasted focaccia bread. I honestly didn't think I'd be able to eat it all, but I managed and I loved every bite. My wife had the bacon bene, which she also proclaimed to be the best she's ever had. PBC, you have ruined us for breakfasts, but it was totally worth it. Would definitely drive all the way back to Gisborne for another plate of food like that. Read morePbc has always been amazing food. Unfortunately everytime I go it is an incredible wait time for food which I can handle on certain days as always plan for. Today however I had fast service ( it was 1300) food was great but it was $30 for the kahuna breakfast which compromised of mushroom, 1 tomato, a little spinach, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 5 bits of focaccia with barely any butter, 2 poached eggs and 3 hash browns. All tasted very good but very lacking on quantities that normally are given and wasn't allowed to add extras even there was no one else ordering and closure is 1400. Felt I essentially paid for toast and hash browns with some sides which normally I get much more. Not a bad score for them as service was great but dissatisfied...

My other half had scrambled eggs, which were well made and accompanied by some delicious foccacia. The coffee was good. Whilst we did not have anything from the cabinet there was food in there that intrigued me and looked well worth trying. The cafe is is a beautiful building. It has outdoor seating and indoor seating in some lovely old dining areas. The art work is variations on the theme of royal portraits, some subverted and some not. I would not feel confident giving 5 stars on one short visit but I would not be surprised if other people with more experience of PBC rated it highly. Would recommend, based on my...
