PBC is our go-to whenever we're in Gisborne. The food is always well presented, and there has never been a time when this place failed to meet our expectations. It's busy (no surprises), the cabinet food offers lots of options if the menu doesn't excite you - the selection of sweet treats is impressive, and the barista consistently churns out awesome coffee no matter what time of the day you visit. Today, we had the bacon bene, which is not our normal choice. We usually order the potato jumble. Bene is bene is bene until you have bene at PBC. Next level deliciousness - I may have just discovered my new fave!

Well priced food for the quality, presentation, and flavour. Phenomenal and friendly service for our last minute walk-in party of 9. Ordering is done inside at the till and table cards are given for dine-in orders. We ordered around 9:00 am and had food delivered in about 20 minutes, which was an easy wait to have when seated in the beautiful and spacious courtyard. All food ordered tasted very fresh and was the perfect amount of filling. Thank you for the delicious and beautiful breakfast : ) (Pictured are the banana bread (sweet but deliciously balanced with the fresh fruit), and the salmon eggs benny)

Walking into the Cafe thr FOH staff was super nice. They were attentive and brought out our coffees promptly. However after we ordered food we waited about an hour. On the board at the entrance it said the wait times for food was 30 to 40 minutes. We waited an extra 20 minutes for the food, which considering our limited time in Gisborne wasn't ideal. The food visually was great, and the kids pancake and the scrambled eggs were good taste wise, but the Spanish Omelet could have been improved. The Creamy Musrooms were overly sweet for a savory dish. Nothing was bad, but our experience was medicore at best.

I honestly think this may have been the best breakfast I have ever had. I'm a little worried for my future breakfast experiences, really. I had the small kahuna (there was nothing small about it, I'm glad I was hungry! I suspect the big kahuna they offer might comfortably feed a family of four). Big, jucy and flavourful mushrooms, eggs poached to perfection, tasty bacon and sausage, delicious potato cakes (crispy-crunchy on the outside, oh so fluffy on the inside) and perfectly toasted focaccia bread. I honestly didn't think I'd be able to eat it all, but I managed and I loved every bite. My wife had the bacon bene, which she also proclaimed to be the best she's ever had. PBC, you have ruined us for breakfasts, but it was totally worth it. Would definitely drive all the way back to Gisborne for another plate of food like that. If you are in or near Gisborne, this is your must visit breakfast...

Pbc has always been amazing food. Unfortunately everytime I go it is an incredible wait time for food which I can handle on certain days as always plan for. Today however I had fast service ( it was 1300) food was great but it was $30 for the kahuna breakfast which compromised of mushroom, 1 tomato, a little spinach, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 5 bits of focaccia with barely any butter, 2 poached eggs and 3 hash browns. All tasted very good but very lacking on quantities that normally are given and wasn't allowed to add extras even there was no one else ordering and closure is 1400. Felt I essentially paid for toast and hash browns with some sides which normally I get much more. Not a bad score for them as service was great but dissatisfied...

This is a lovely place that I would return to if/when I'm back in Gisborne. I had a savoury scone, which was good. My other half had scrambled eggs, which were well made and accompanied by some delicious foccacia. The coffee was good. Whilst we did not have anything from the cabinet there was food in there that intrigued me and looked well worth trying. The cafe is is a beautiful building. It has outdoor seating and indoor seating in some lovely old dining areas. The art work is variations on the theme of royal portraits, some subverted and some not. I would not feel confident giving 5 stars on one short visit but I would not be surprised if other people with more experience of PBC rated it highly. Would recommend, based on my...
