New for 2025: wonderful sculptures and "waka" walkway over the road, celebrating the tangata whenua and their encounter with Cook and his crew. Joseph Bank's shock and surprise at the diversity of nature beyond European experience is shown thorough a detailed naturalists' walk through a small grove of local plants, matched with illustrations by Banks and his artists.

It is incredible. The walf to get there is really long (45mins each way) and you will need hiking boots once you get to the landing site since it is really wet under foot. The view is totally worth the walk. It would be a good idea to have a picnic down there at the landing site. 😀

Simple site marking the event. Original wording is readable on the obelisk. The garden surround with explanation of the botany findings are interesting. All told a very quick visit as the site has working docks behind so there is little or no view.

Unfortunately now surrounded by a logging port. Only two parks and a disabled parking spot beside it. I couldn't get to it due to the fourteen logging trucks waiting to enter the port. There is a waka shaped bridge from the reserve side but it wasn't finished when...
