The Poverty Bay Club — Restaurant in North Island

Was recently in Gisborne for a Holiday. I've been visting my whole life, and let me say that not a lot of places in town can even compete with this one. Firstly, the place itself is almost magnificent. Next, the service is fantastic. Staff where hospitable, and quick with their service. Lastly, and most importantly, the food. I went just for one breakfast, and I spent every other morning I was in town wishing that I could afford another visit. The eggs benedict that this place served will haunt every other establishment I visit. Nothing in town could taste so good.

After I was done, I sat at one of the tables with a good book. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Enjoyed some of the wonderful coffee.

Went for lunch. Table next to ours stacked with remnants of crockery & food from the last guests seated there, and wasn't cleaned for over an hour. I watched 3 people try sit there & give up to find another place. Sign saying half hour wait and we waited 45 minutes for our 3 dishes. They forgot to bring me cutlery, twice. I went to grab a water and my glass had lipstick all over it. Didn't have full range of bottled beers advertised on menu. Prices exorbitant comparitive to service. Wouldn't...

Took two friends there for lunch today. Most disappointing. $53 for some soggy doughy paninis filled with a couple of pieces of chicken/cheese. All lukewarm. Not a bit of garnish on any plate. Coffees were okay but sorry guys, you wont see us back there. ☹...
