Shinjuku Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Hamilton

Walked in, tired of being served disappointing food all day, not expecting much. We ordered some nigiri set and chicken yakisoba. I was pleasantly surprised with the exceptional service, very polite waiter, made us feel comfortable. The place had quiet japanese string music on,which I found perfect after a long day. Clean interior, I can see they've tried to make it somewhat japanese especially with the black walls.

Now as with the food, both me and my mum were impressed. It was clean and crisp. Yakisoba came on a sizzling plate with nicely cooked chicken ( slightly burnt on the edges, which gave the perfect amount of charcoal taste) and was well seasoned. Had a good flavour overall. Nigiri plate was also neat and had a nice proportion of sashimi and rice ( decent amount of sashimi on each nigiri). Plating was quite pretty, even the plates complemented the food. Overall feeling was tidy and clean...

Today I had teriyaki chicken donburi for takeaway lunch. It was the worst teriyaki chicken I ever had. The sauce all soak into the rice. There wasn't any sauce on chicken and no any caramelized, it just like frozen cooked chicken and defrosted. there was tiny little very fine shaved cabbage under the chicken. Rice is about 2 times chicken, cabbage is about .001 time chicken. They do guite good tempura, but they don't use bean, broccoli etc green vegetables, they only use kumara and potoatoe or taro, tempura prawns are nice.

For tariyaki chickeI think I'll stick with ijapanese cafe for their teriyaki chicken donburi. Chicken caramelized with sauce freshly cook. Chicken about 2 times of rice. Two chicken tights. Cabbage salad same amount of rice and comes with miso soup cost $4 more but it...

First time trying this place with my family and partner yesterday. I 100% recommend this place if you love traditional Japanese meals made with love. They were getting busy which was a good sign. Seems to be a husband and wife duo working! Everything was flavourful and cooked well. Hot, crispy prawn tempura. Fried gyoza delicious. My mum had a gluten free chicken teriyaki donburi which she said was so flavourful. I had a chicken katsu lunch box which was so cute to look at and sooo tasty! I wish I took some pictures but the food was way to good I had to just dig in! We want to go back for dinner service for sure.
