We chose Orchid Thai for a low-key dinner located a convenient stretch down the road from our motel, having noticing it was well-patronized on previous nights when we were dining at other nearby eateries.
The interior is comfortable without being lavish or overly decorated. The tables have glass tops and the furniture was more functional than designer. We felt welcomed upon entering, greeted by a very pleasant gentleman.
Amongst us we ordered two mixed entrees, and for mains a green chicken curry, thai fried fish and a special of mixed seafood curry stir-fry. Very much satisfied with our meal choices, the mixed entrees provided everything we could want as a sampler, from piquant fish cakes, crispy curry-puffs and spring rolls, to delicate satay and fried chicken wings.
With the mains, the green curry was spiced to my companion's liking, although his request for extra cashews on / in the curry did result in a whole bowl of them being brought to the table with the meal at extra charge rather than the sprinkling on top he was expecting. The fried fish had a pleasant sweet piquant sauce and wasn't overcooked, while the mixed seafood stir fry was a delicious medley of texture and variety in the shellfish provided, though detectably from frozen rather than fresh. The curry sauce however was really packed with flavor and I devoured the lot happily.
Our server seemed a little nervous and inexperienced and had to come back to check the order as his memory had failed him, but he made up for this in friendliness and it certainly didn't detract from a pleasant...
Read moreThe Angel of Thai food led us to the Thai Orchid Hamilton, all the other Thai places were closed on Monday night, my birthday, this was our very good fortune. We have never had bad Thai in any of Hamilton’s offerings but this was our best ever Thai, even maybe better than in Thailand. The carefully curated unusual & beautiful serving dishes and cutlery, different to anywhere else, the fabulous wine offering, the top Thai pop hits music carefully selected by the young Thai manager. Then the main attraction, the food. The vegies were cooked to perfection, it seemed nearly raw but no, so delicious. The spice, instead of a slap in the face by your brother, a gentle cupping of your face by mother’s hands sending you on an adventure. The delicate use of chilli and lime leaf for those that asked for mild but the flavour, so intenso. Choo Chee fish, with fresh NZ fish, was the best we have ever had anywhere and the vegetarian red curry was filled with vegies and plenty of tofu, no need to search it out. Yes our new favourite, if we could take you back to Canberra, we would. The only choice left open was the best choice by far. East Hamilton and the Thai Orchid will take you to Siam without a plane ticket and your only luggage, a feed bag. We have a week or so left visiting family, so we can take this fabulous trip a few more times! The prices were very reasonable, steam rice comes with your meal included, we are used to that being an extra cost, so we thought it was great value for such quality food and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive throughout our meal.
We started with the Tom Yum soup, which had the perfect balance of spicy and sour. The Pad Thai was a true standout, with fresh ingredients and just the right amount of sweetness and nuttiness.
The portion sizes were generous, and the pricing was reasonable for the quality of food and service provided. Whether you're a Thai food connoisseur or trying it for the first time, Thai Orchid caters to all palates and preferences.
In conclusion, Thai Orchid Restaurant is a gem in Hamilton, offering an authentic Thai dining experience that will transport your taste buds to the streets of Thailand. The warm and friendly service, along with the outstanding cuisine, make it a must-visit for anyone in the area. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...
