The Lyonaise Fern Restaurant + Bar — Restaurant in Hamilton

Came here during a stay at a nearby hotel whilst we are travelling around New Zealand. Booked through First Table for 50% off food bill. We got seated very quickly and the server was friendly. The menu is a bit limited, especially if you are vegetarian/ vegan and a little pricey at $38 for a main and $20 ish for a starter. The drinks are also expensive, with a coke being $5 and a small glass (and also a pepsi). The service was very slow. The starter (halloumi) took about 40 mins to arrive for 4 slices of grilled halloumi. It was very tasty but for $20 full price is a little stingy on portion size. The main then took another 30 minutes. I really enjoyed my short rib, the meet was very tender and the gravy was really rich. I thought the portion was generous too. My partner had the pork belly and he reported it being average and a small portion size. No server came to take our plates away after 20 minutes of sitting at the table and I ended up going up to the bar to pay, at which point our plates still weren’t taken away. My partner and i came across this when we were heading to The Made. I am so glad The Made was closed today as we stopped in here and decided to have lunch. We ordered a dozen oysters half raw and half battered and OML it was absolutely beautiful! The batter on the oysters was nice and light and the raw...well i love raw oysters! We then had ordered a steak sandwich and pork belly tacos between us and It was devine! The steak sandwich was melt in your mouth no chewyness at all and the porkbelly taco was delicious, that pineapple salsa i think it was, was so yummy! Please read below for a comparison So we went back to try again and wow how things have gone down hill. I have put up new photos of the meal and I will tell you that it was appalling. The chicken was a deep fried version of what you would get from the service station and for $38 that is shocking, my partners meal was not much better. The bites as the photo shows were rough as guts. The wind coming through a broken door was freezing and we had to close it multiple times. The waiter was average at best not asking was the food any good until I paid. What has happened guys? Not a recommendation from me So sad
