Found over 20 small shards of aluminium foil in the shawarmas that were cut in half that I had to pick off - cutting it may look visually appealing but customers are ingesting small specks of aluminium foil which many may not even check, this is super unsafe.

We ordered online and received the wrong order (which was larger than what we ordered) and in good heart, we sent back with our Uber Eats Driver, as Kebab Joint called us saying we had the wrong order and our order was ready for pick up. Kebab Joint then told us to come pick up the order personally, although we paid for delivery. They had poor communication over the phone and we had to argue our point across that we paid for delivery, hence we shouldn’t be expected to pick up the order after they handed over the wrong order to deliver (which we returned). The communication was so poor, I was unsure if anyone was even coming to deliver food to us after the call, as we had waited another 30 mins after our phone call and didn’t have any tracking this time. The Uber Eats order was marked as completed after the first order muck up so we were left waiting, it appeared to have been privately delivered by Kebab Joint in the end which was nice of them after all the chaos. However this whole situation took just shy of an hour after our original order submission, and when it came it was unfortunately super disappointing.

The chicken shawarma isn’t a shawarma at all - it wasn’t made using pita bread, Kebab Joint uses tortilla wraps. To make it worse, our ‘shawarmas’ were literally burnt to charcoal on one side of both the ‘shawarmas’ we ordered - the aluminium foil was stuck to the charcoal burnt tortilla wrap. Eating it burnt tasted disgusting. The salad leaves tasted like mesclun salad leaves which should never be in a shawarma and overpowered the entire taste, which further ruined it. There are far more leaves than anything in the ‘shawarma’, looking nothing like the pictures they portray.

I’m really disappointed with our first and last order at Kebab Joint. I’m never one to leave bad reviews but this has by far been the most disappointing kebab experience I’ve ever had. $43 for 2 pathetic chicken ‘shawarmas’ - not worth the time or...

Recently opened taking over the site of the beloved Ziba’s café. They have a blend of Afghani and Persian dishes. Stepping inside the décor has the warmth and charm of the Middle East with pillows, rugs and eclectic brass fittings.

Their name might suggest that they are only a kebab shop but they have a diverse menu full of outstanding good value dishes. These dishes include succulent chicken karahi (chicken thighs marinated in a special sauce served with rice or bread), Kabuli palaw (tender lamb shank nestled amongst steamed rice, raisins and carrots) and mantu (flavourful traditional Afghan dumplings with onions, leeks and spices).

There are vegetarian options include borani-e-bademjan (bursting with the goodness of eggplant with tomato, peppers and garlic sauce served with rice or bread) and bolani (crispy grilled flatbread stuffed with leeks and potatoes).

They also have quite possibly the best shawarma in Auckland. Full of freshness and flavour. Available in lamb, chicken or falafel. All meals are halal.

Drinks to accompany the dishes include the tangy fermented yogurt drink, doogh. They also have saffron tea and other soft drinks.

Worst experience I've EVER had. decided to try this place out as were considering it for a function. Someone booked a table day before. On arrival there was no booking. It was empty so didn't matter. Food came out and one wrong dish came. No one ordered it so no one claimed it. They took it back. I waited as everyone got there's and mine never came. Eventually I asked where mine was and had to reorder. 2 more tables of people came in and got there's before me and our table had finished there lunch by now. 1 hour 20 minutes after arrival my lamb on chips arrived. I complained as I couldn't eat it as due back at work. The man was so rude to me, I got no apology, wouldn't offer me a discount or anything for their incompetence bringing out the wrong meal, was trying to charge me $40 not $16 due to the first incorrect meal and then said don't pay and give me back the food. Absolutely will not...

So at the time of posting I saw that this place was 4.9 stars. Holy hecker! That's a reason to try it right? Turns out I wasn't wrong. The food here is 2nd to none and Ziba cafe only compares to another highly commended 'Middle Eastern style' restaurant, Pasha. The interior is atmospheric, cosy, and has great flair with this easily being a fantastic date spot and would definitely recommend it. I tried the Ziba cafe special with a Koobideh, Chenjeh, and Joojeh while my partner has the Joojeh. We finished everything on the plate and our only regret was that we didn't have larger stomachs. I definitely found a hidden gem today with some amazing food and I'll definitely be back. With friends. 6/5

I had lunch here today. I had chicken and lamb skewers with rice (Vaziri) and a Persian yogurt drink (doogh) on the side. Then for dessert, had a Baklava and was given the chance to try their (work in progress) saffron ice cream. Flavours were spot on, the skewers were tasty and tender, salad was great and the saffron rice was perfect. As for the desserts, I really liked that they weren’t overly sweet. The ice cream had an interesting texture (soft and cotton-like), but I liked it because it reminded me of Santol (Cotton Fruit) which we have in the Philippines. Truly, great value for great food. Can’t wait to go back already. 😉 P.S. I loved the interiors too!
