Mantra Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Henderson-Massey

Sadly this place did not leave us satisfied. The interior was not pleasant, and dining on paper mats show that this place is a bit lazy. We ordered the Tandoori Mushrooms which were nice, however they did feel re-heated as opposed to cooked fresh. The Tandoori Chicken was also served within 5 minutes of ordering, which further implied reheating. Surprisingly the Garlic Naan did not come out with entrees. When it did arrive 40 mins later, it was too crispy and bland. We finished eating the tiny entrees and awaited the mains. The Lamb Biriyani was not pleasant at all. It was basically just overley spicy rice. The worst Biriyani we have tried. The service was not great either, the waiter was loudly laughing and talking to the cooks while we waiting for our main. And his response when we asked where is the Naan, was "it is supposed to come out with the mains" rather than an apology. The toilet and washroom area was unlit and not presentable.

The only saving grace was the cost. It was under 40 dollars for the 4 dishes we ordered.

However as we wouldn't finish the Biriyani, we left hungry, and extremely disappointed.

Sadly it looks like there are some fake reviews for Mantra as well.

I will remember that if a place is not busy at dinner time, it is because something is not good, or often a lot of things...

Award winning Chef's food yuuummmyyy

I am from London and came to visit my family in NZ .We had a fantastic dinner at Mantra last night .The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters.The service was excellent and the food was very tasty and well presented.They had this amazing , very authentic Nepalese MOMO (Dumpling ) and Onion Rings( Onion Bhaji ) . Wide range and varieties of curry .Dhaba Chicken and Chicken Biryani was very delicious.The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients.And must say those CHEF'S would have been awarded if they were serving these amazing food in London. All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. Will 200% come back to MANTRA when I am back again to NZ and highly...

Too much masala and oil in the food which left us with uneasy tummies...

I saw a response to my review from the owner which assumed many things like I have had a meal this week using my name to trace it.

It is disappointing that I don't see an attempt to seek any details of the issue etc. to attempt remediate a feedback from a local resident.

In addition, there is an offer to give me a free complementary meal in return for proof that I have had a meal with them. I am surprised that the owner assumes that I would take the offer of a free meal especially from a place which gave my family uneasy tummies.

Thanks, but I am not interested in a free meal. I only want my feedback to be heard i.e. only if you care about...
