Updated review: 4th time visitor and their menu changed 3 times and the prices increasing everytime there is a menu change! Not to mention there were items that were dropped which is i suppose is fine, the price increase not so much!
Can I also say that they need to clean up the place, the overwhelming smell once you entered the premises is š¤¢
3 months ago review: Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, I was not expecting a lot, managed to go to a few Thai restaurant in the area and they were ok but this one is the best there is in Henderson.
The place is huge and the spaces between tables are good. I would say their wall paint is not the most warm being orange and they do lack decors. Nevetheless, this seems like a tiny thing when you are hungry.
Now down to food. We ordered the pork bones zapp soup - this was really good. There is something very soothing with the spicyness and sourness of it all. The Moo Ping is divine!! I loved this dish so much and so glad someone has it in their menu. We also had Pad Thai, a little sweet but the best we had, it does taste very close to the OG and it was not a stingy dish, they really put a lot of stuff in there. I remember dining in a popular thai resto in Orewa where they used "subtstitute ingredients" which was disappointing. This one is not. We had the sticky mango rice to cap the night and although the mango was not that ripe, it was good enough for someone whose been craving this for so long.
The only sad part would be the Thai Milk Tea is definitely too sweet and filled with ice, i don't think it was worth $9 when it was barely half the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter hearing a lot of good recommendation for this restaurant. We finally decided to try this place. We ordered the pork scotch skewer, the soft shell crab and the pork belly pad thai after seeing review about this from a guy who didn't want to review. Anyway the skewers came first and it came with like a sweet soy vinegary sauce with some pepper and chilli flake on top. The skewers was nicely charred and with the sauce was very delicious. It wasn't the best skewer I've had in Auckland but it was one of the best. Next was the mains. The softshell crab didn't come with rice so we ordered one bowl of rice which was definitely enough for two. The softshell crab was really really good. They served two of them actually and they reassemble it back as a crab shape which sits on a big pile of fresh onion and herb with lots of fish sauce which tasted very authentic. The crab was thinly battered and fried and was crunch and meaty too. I think this is my favourite softshell crab dish in Auckland, the flavour is quite strong though with the sauce. The pad thai was actually slightly let down for me and my wife. Not sure of because i'm not a big fan of pad thai, but I think this dish was very overpowering with the flavour, it was quite salty and greasy but the portion was huge. It still tasted good but can't really have too much. Overall I would give this place a 4.5/5 for taste. Definitely didn't make it to my top 10 list for Auckland but still will come back to try some other dish like the fried rice and their curries to give...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely wonderful place to eat Thai food. Their Pad Thai is completely exquisite and my favourite in New Zealand. The service is good and the wait time is reasonable. What doesn't make it 5 stars and is my only issue (and I hope that this will be fixed for future meals) is that every table should have the same level of comfort of chairs. When we came in, we were seated at a table in what appeared to be children's plastic chairs which were very uncomfortable. Fortunately they did trade these seats when some became available after a couple left about ten minutes later, but there were plenty of other comfortable seats available for us to trade with. When asked, they initially declined this as it would make the reservation tables appear unbalanced, which I completely understand aesthetically. However, when the reservation party turned up, they didn't even end up needing all of the chairs thus making the point moot. I would ask that this restaurant has the correct number of comfortable seats for each table at its capacity in the future as I felt rather embarrassed being seated in chairs that appeared childish and were unsatisfactory for the price of dining in. I will change my review to 5 stars when all of the chairs in this restaurant are sufficiently comfortable...
