L & L Hawaiian Barbecue — Restaurant in Henderson-Massey

No exaggeration, this was the WORST dining experience I’ve had in Auckland.

I’m not sure if they have the leg to label themselves L&Ls, because that was far from the real thing. It almost seems like they’ve stolen the name and used it promote their mediocre pub food.

The meats had an off taste and foul odour, and majority of the meat itself was fat. The sides tasted like it had been sitting for days and the rice came very minimal and room temperature. In total two meals came up to $60 and both guests could barely finish our meals willingly. I couldn’t tell what meat I was eating due to the off taste and the meat being over cooked.

I saw that there were numerous negative reviews on this place and I gave them a chance, hoping that the experience override those opinions. Instead, I felt shame for whoever’s running this place. to serve food like that to paying customers, you would have no pride in your business besides maintaining the slots and live games tucked away in the corner of the restaurant.

Food ordered & paid for at a booked time while we went next door for massage. Staff were very efficient and friendly. 8/10 Food ordered was (a little) over priced for the quality. Seafood platter $26 (The Scallops, Snapper bites and the crumbled prawns were tasty but the rest was ok) 4/10 Hawaiian BBQ mix $25 The meats were tasty and yummy and cooked perfectly. (tender, melt in your mouth sort of thing.) Salad/ Pasta was average though. 6/10 Garlic bread (around$6) was hard/chewy and tough to bite not the greatest 2/10 Atmosphere; Loud locals who obviously go to drink there have little respect for dining patrons (Talking / Shouting loud and joking with staff ) 4/10 Our first visit to this venue. It seems that this place has recieved may mixed reviews. Mine happens to fall on the grimmer side of the spectrum. We ordered bbq pork ribs and vegetarian burger. The bbq ribs were nothing special, the sauce was meh. The vegetarian burger, well, we didn't expect anything super special from a vegetarian burger of course. But at least we expected a little bit more effort in putting together a veg burger if one was to bother enough to put it on the menu at all. At least the usual bean patty or something. Instead, they put in hash brown as patty with a very tiny bit of sauce or something like it and the dry buns. I suppose it's not one of their best meals. Seeing other 5 star reviews though, maybe some other time I'll give it another try and order something more properly...
