Spicy House紅房子(Howick) — Restaurant in Howick

It was by chance that I happened to pass by this store and I was curious to see if it was the same as the one on Dominion road. I was so happy to see that they opened a new location so close to where I live and where I can bring my whole family. This place offers so much more in terms of space and variety. I enjoyed dining here and will be back again!

I loved the food everything has such amazing flavour and super fresh. I bought my family here for the first time and they absolutely loved it. We got vegetarian dumplings, egg fried rice , beef noodle soup, spicy egg plant, garlic chicken. All dishes were cooked to perfection.

However I noticed there was a table of people who were not dining but observing and taking notes with a laptop and staring at everyone who dined, I thought it was a little strange that they’d do that in the middle of the restaurant and gave an unpleasant vibe. The staff though, were wonderful they forgot a few things like my drink and sauces but they are still learning so nothing that can’t be improved. I would suggest they have a station for soy sauce and chilli sauce and larger bowls for sharing as they only had tiny bowls for us to share the soup.

My husband and I ordered takeaway tonight (Saturday) - 2 dishes and the restaurant was busy. I placed the order on the phone at 7:07pm and we got our order at 8pm. My husband was at the restaurant at about 7:20pm, he expected to wait a couple of mins as he could see they were busy and decided to pay as soon as he got there. He was attendant to by a young guy at the front counter, who seemed least concerned about him waiting even beyond 15 mins. When my husband asked how long the wait was, the guy kept saying the chef is making yours now. Another 15 mins later and the same reply (the waiter wasnt checking in with the chef FYI). When my husband approached one of the female waitress and explained the situation she said 'thanks for spending time with us'. The waiting was one thing, but the attitude of the staff did not help the situation at all. When my husband raised the issue, they offered him a soft drink for 45mins of waiting, then decided a 10% discount for the next visit would suffice. We really enjoy the food here but this has changed the experience for us. We have dined in a couple of times before had enjoyed the food and service. I visited it on Thursday (14-Aug-25), with family (table of 6).

I ordered spicy chilli Tofu, egg fried rice, fried rice, chilli mushroom, veg dumplings and chilli fried potatoes.

The food was delicious at that time, so we were all happy. The service was good. However, in next 5 hours, it made my both the kids sick- vomiting. My daughter has at least 4 times vomitting episodes. So, I need to take her to Emergency (East Care). The doctor agreed that it is a food infection.

My wife and I also had the vomiting after 10 hours and had severe infection until Saturday.

I wrote the list of items that I ordered, so you can check your food preparation and how you usually make it.

Upon talking to one of my friend, he also had the same thing a month ago.

I have attached the screenshot for the receipt and doctor visits.

Need to look for food preparation, stock expiry and cross contamination, this can be severe to the people with less Immunity.
