Chicking Onehunga — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

Sunday 13/11/22 Alot of the shops closed on the main road of Onehunga tried the cafe across the road but one had kitchen closed and the cafe next door had not much in the bain marie or cabinets so we saw the Chicking and went to have a look inside at what they had to offer. Family of 4 adults and 3 kids so we were looking for valus and combos and sizings. Order 2in one special and value choice meal one spicy and ther other non spicy. Price was good for what you get a free drink with combo burger, chips, strips, and mash $15.90. Popcorn chicken, mash, burger $13.90 which both great value, and not oily (i.e. kfc) popcorn chicken better value and portion than that of kfc ( this was value for your money. The bread or crumb base outside of the chicken was just enough that you could bite and you could taste and see the chicken meat. Overrall experince for husband and i was very good spent $41.80 all up. It was that good we ordered an extrai value meal and a spicy crispy sandwich. Look fist time did not know how the food would taste but we were impress everything was hot and what gave us seconds was the portion of chicken meat to the crispy breading over it. This was evenly distributed, hot and fresh, you know when its fresh because you cannot taste the oil or it comes through the packaging which there was no sign of oily stains. The place was clean and tables were available for eatin . Afew trays on the bins but the aisle way was clean. Parking at the back and in the front maybe becausee sundaya there was parking on the mainroad of Onehunga very impress with quality of food recieved. Have to give the cook in the kitchen a big thankyou as he made sure food was fresh and hot. While waiting a total of 5 more customers walking in. They did well with one up front and the cook at the back. Well done food was a delight and service was good always focus on the orders and the back area as to food coming up. I gave a 4 star instead of 5 star as the promo was only for coke or zero coke so would of perfer water if you dont drink soda drinks would of been a better option. Asked if they had a nappy change and he said not sure but toilets available so it would of been good to know for customers with babies so the stars were given 4. Would we come back yes this was a good experience the rest of the family ordered $70. plus mealss and flam grill. They also were happy with there food. It is good to see quality and value for the price and range, spicy, flame grill, crispy, non spicy, rice, toasty sandwich (just the bomb you have to try) Thankyou to the cook i hope there are cooks who prepare there products like this man (with importance on the taste and quality handling) Spice peri peri was great.

14/11 My husband and I went to sandringham chicking because of the experience we recieved in Onehunga chicking but what a disappointment, lobby area was not clean, they overcarged for drink on the value meal when i asked the guy came from the back and said promo free drink finished yesterday but nothing saying this. Hygiene was not the best, customer service touching his hair andface and completing the orders no evident of hand sanitation lots of posters but while we were there nothing. Similar staff x2 lack enery and customer quality and food ordered chicken meat box with aioli which i thought you get on the side but it was smothered all over chicken and chips and salad too much sauce did not enjoy spoil the chicken taste would not grade Sandringham as we will not be returning we live down the road we will certainly go back to Onehunga for quality of food. (The owners have changed so the service has improved) I took my two daughters to chicking last night, and we prefer it over KFC now! It’s so much fresher and the food is made with care it was actually hot and put together well the flavours are really good I thoroughly enjoyed it. My girls both got the popcorn chicken and I had a crunchy burger with periperi it was the perfect amount of spice I really enjoyed it. The service is top tier you really can’t find this kind of service in many places these days. The owner was SO lovely!! She played with my kids while I ordered and was so easy to talk to it was really nice as a single mum to have a shop owner do that! When we left it was late and I was abit worried about some of the people on the street well the owner Joohi and her partner both walked me and my daughters back to our hotel! The most amazing people I highly recommend everyone to go support this business and interact with the owners they’re lovely and more business should take note!
