What we ordered: - strawberry and red bean mochi ball $9 - Ajimi special small $25 - 8 pieces fresh tuna sushi $14 - okonomiyaki $14 The sashimi here is so amazing! I don't know if it's just because I love sushi but this was so good. It all kind of just melts in your mouth and it's so good with a bit of lemon juice to cut through the fat. I would highly recommend the Ajimi special, I think it had yellow tail, salmon, tuna, shrimp and a couple other fishes and it was amazing. I loved just trying everything, I gave up on trying to remember what everything was and just enjoyed it. One of my fondest memories as a child was the first time I tried okonomiyaki so I was obviously overjoyed to find one on the menu. It was great, not as good as the sashimi but it was still so good. It's sweet and savoury and a bit sticky and it's just amazing and fun and one of my favourite dishes ever. I've tried making okonomiyaki a bunch of times at home and they're just never as good as they are in restaurants. We also got the fresh tuna sushi and it was amazing. I think there are few things better than sushi and this is no different. I like how chunky the tuna was too, it was so good and just melts in your mouth, I'd go back and get the sushi again in a second. Last of all we got the mochi! I love mochi and will take any excuse to order it. It wasn't the best mochi I've ever had but it was still so good, I am a huge fan of red bean so obviously I was a fan of this. Also I thought it was adorable that they cut it in half especially for us and that they decorated them with panda cookies. I'm not well versed in sashimi but I thought this was amazing :))

Its a Monday just after Midday so very few patrons. Great little spot, def has that authentic Izakaya feels, very cozy and snug, Food is fresh and delicious, the service was great.. wife enjoyed speaking some Japanese to our very friendly waitress.. We started with drinks, I preferred Soporro in a Can, felt the handle wasn't my jam and the head wasn't a perfect pour but it was still good. No Masu but the Sake glasses were large, and the Junmai was hitting the spot. I tried the sparkling sake, which I loved, but my wife not so much...acquired taste for sure. The Food was delicious, started with Salmon Sashimi, Crispy Squid Tentacles and Croquettes...(I wish I bought more) and the Wagyu steak... which is still cooking when it arrives to the table, as for the price for a Wagyu...well I felt it was abit underwhelming, it was still yum...but for $30+ you could get a scotch fillet double the size with sides at an Irsh bar. We had a great time, and I'd definitely return

Wow so delicious! We all got a medium sized portion main dish each, and two grilled squids to share. All were amazing! Sashimi was fresh, great variety and came with a great portion of rice. Ramen was SO yum! Spicy hotpot was affordable and wasn’t extremely spicy but was delicious! Our favourite was the grilled squid - came with sauce which was so tasty as well! We were seated outside as we didn’t make a booking in advanced, but was a nice spring evening so wasn’t cold. Despite that, it was still comfortable. Food came reasonably quickly, and service was great!! Would definitely come back, I recommend this place ☺️

I recently dined at Ajimi on October 6th 5:45PM (stating this so it is made very clear which waiter was working) and had an unfortunate experience that overshadowed the meal. While the food looked promising, I walked out without eating due to the appalling customer service and rude nature of the waiter.

Upon arrival, we were informed of a legal time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes for our table. This was surprising, as we were not made aware of this policy when making our reservation over the phone. The male waiter on the evening shift was not only abrupt but also rude, stating that "the clock has started" as soon as we sat down. His attitude was so off-putting that I felt compelled to leave immediately. Please, you are in hospitality, do not intentionally mumble words when the customer can hear it, it creates a terrible reputation for the owner. And being someone who has worked in hospitality and ran many restaurants, this is very appalling and I personally would not let this happen.

While I understand that restaurants may have policies in place, it’s crucial for staff to communicate these clearly to guests ahead of time. Unfortunately, the service I received at Ajimi did not reflect the hospitality one would expect.

I hope the management addresses this issue, as the food deserves a better atmosphere. I have been here countless times and it has been amazing but this has completely ruined it. I am sure the chefs deserve the recognition for their food, but the male waiter (he wears a black mask) just ruins it...

I'm really sad to be writing this but it is what it is. My wife and I are onehunga locals and when Ajimi first opened we were very vocal about how amazing it was to have such a great restaurant in Onehunga. I personally recommended it to whoever I could, I was proud.

As time went on the level of quality dropped and I know there has been extreme circumstances, namely covid to blame for many difficulties but even the basics are now missed at our treasured restaurant.

We have literally spent thousands of dollars since its opening and now I feel let down and ripped off. The level of quality, service and overall presentation is terrible.

It is unclean, dirty and the food quality has dropped significantly.

My parents were over from Australia and we decided to take them to Ajimi for a dinner and it was a total let down. Service was very slow and we were even slowed down more by people who arrived after us being served first. We had to make it obvious that we wanted to be served. We had booked a table, that was tacky and unclean. We waited and waited for them to take our drink order and when they did it was average, nothing compared to what we were accustomed to.

We ordered over $170 worth of food and were let down. It was average. This restaurant never used to be average and was fantastic, something to be proud of. But now I would not recommend it to anyone.

Ajimi clean the place! Manage the place! Work on the basics! Get it back to what it...
