We live in the city centre with two teenage children and Central Park is one of our favourite places to frequently go to either for a walk around the many well formed and maintained trails, or playing in the playground area on the flying foxes (3 of them side by side). We also enjoy using some of the trails as shortcuts when walking from the city side up to Brooklyn Shops or to the Penthouse Picture Theatre. We would never let the children go on their own though either to the playground or on the trails as for decades there has always been a concern of lurkers in the park who shouldn't be there - unfortunate, but it is a heavily wooded park in the city and its better to be safe than sorry, particularly with some of the incidents in the park that have been reported on in the press in...

Come in along the stream track, and see the Gloworms, along the track from top to bottom. It's November & baby Kaka will soon be on the ground checking out their turf. Keep a sharp eye on the stream, as it has native fish - Banded Kokopu, and Koura- crayfish, as they can sense our foot falls, as you walk the track & will hide, fast. There's a good children's play area with facilities. Read moreI love walking through Central Park in Wellington! The trails and stairs are well maintained, and the changes in elevation will most definitely give your legs and lungs a bit of a workout. What I like most about Central Park is the feeling of being transported back in time. The greenery and magnificent Silver Fern trees combine with the sounds of the Kākā and Tui birds to make you forget you are in the city. Truly spectacular!
