Eighty Eight Café in Tauranga, New Zealand, is one of those spots that feels like a well-kept secret but also welcoming to everyone. Tucked away at the end of the street in town, it’s the kind of place where you can grab a great coffee, settle in with your laptop, or just enjoy a relaxed meal with friends. Let’s start with the coffee—it’s seriously good. The baristas clearly know their craft, and you can taste the difference. Whether you’re into a classic flat white or something more adventurous, the coffee is smooth, well-balanced, and made with care. They also have a small but thoughtful menu that focuses on quality, so even the food feels just right. What I really love about Eighty Eight is how versatile it is. There are three distinct seating areas depending on your mood. The front is perfect for people-watching or soaking up some sunshine. Inside is cozy and ideal if you’re escaping the weather. Then there’s the back patio—a quiet, airy space where you can really relax. It’s also laptop-friendly, so if you need a change of scenery for work, this is a great spot. Eighty Eight Café manages to balance a laid-back vibe with quality coffee and great service. Whether you’re a regular or just passing through Tauranga, it’s worth the stop.

Waited patiently for renovation. The decor was much nicer before. I'm not entirely sure what they had done. The staff now looks grumpy - especially the blonde lady. Waited a long time to be served with no other customers - lady making coffee just looked at me and didn't acknowledge me. The blonde server just walked to the other only table inside and back by the cabinet and to the table while I was waiting. Didn't acknowledge me either. Coffee was good. Carrot cake was good. Service not so much. This was my favorite cafe when visiting the Mt, and I always loved coming here. Quite disappointed this weekend. I was so looking forward to it reopening.

I wish I would’ve discovered this place sooner. And I’m so grateful that I still found it. I came in for a coffee and it’s really cool cause each one has a double shot and I opted for a third shot and it’s only a dollar more and then I saw this amazing scone And I had no intention of eating food until I saw this thing and I’m like I gotta have it and wow, it is one of the favorite things I have eaten in a while. I highly recommend coming here. They have such a wide variety of fresh baked, pastries, and savory items and sandwiches. I will be back. Thank you for creating such a wonderful place to indulge my taste buds.

Very nice..caters for GF , Raw , and regular tastes. The food choices are unpretentious , fresh very fresh...good honest food and voluptuous in presentation appearance and most importantly,,,taste. Simple friendly service...nice. Coffee? ..so nice to come home to NZ and drink real coffee . In New Zealand your shots are doubles unless other wise requested no namby pamby single shots. Im going to go out on a limb and say " while its not impossible, it is extremely unnusual to find bad coffee in NZ". Its something any good NZcafe of prides themselves on . I had the Benedict on hash and bagel devine . Took away extremely ample slice of moist cream cheese apricot and pumpkin seed topped carrot cake and Lolly cake... We're comming back. Its not cheap nor terribly expensive. The Haloumi salad wraps are worth trying as...

Cafe 88 dropped the ball definitely today. Three of us went for brunch two meals were from the cabinet one was the 88 breakfast. Told it was going to be 20min wait for kitchen said ok. So then our two cabinet meals come out straight away bad move why didn’t you bring them out with the 88 meal. So rude. Didn’t enjoy my meal eating it in front of my husband bad service. 25 mins later I asked how much longer would our last meal be 5 more mins so my husband left restaurant disgusted. When I approached the waiter explaining how wrong it was to not serve all meals together he didn’t care and said that’s just how it is. Rude man. Bad service never going back again. Terrible customer service. Oh and we paid before our meals. As I person in customer service I recommend the boss fixes waiters attitude and how you...
