a safe place to swim if you don't want to contend with the waves of the mount Beach on the other side. at pilot bay you can hire a small yacht, a kayak, stand up paddle board, or a floating trike to go and explore the Harbour in. one time I was there and some orca came right up close to the beach! down the end there is a wharf you can fish off - my mate and I caught a big kingfish off there once! there is also an ice cream shop, fish n chip shop, and a decent restaurant there too. it is close to the mount so you can walk up pilot bay, around the mount and head back down into mount central to get food or do retail shopping. pilot bay has bbqs...

Thereās a boardwalk to stroll along, a grassy area for the kids to play on, plenty of sandy beach, seating, toilet facilities and drinking fountains. Thereās limited parking though so the earlier you arrive the better.
