This place is amazing. There's a mish mash of modern, contemporary and traditional (particularly British) elements that wonderfully mesh together to create a homely feel. A tall order in such an open space with the buzz of sound and laughter and children all around in this space Kai Tahi. To eat as one. Their decor also pays homage to iconic features of Porirua with a beautiful feature wall.. They've even managed to fit in a bike shop.. that is not self contained but open space.. if I didn't know better the husband (from the UK)"and wife (Home-grown Tawa but Porirua proudly lay cliam) duo are so in love they didn't want any partitions dividing one anothers line of sight. Food & coffee are good, the prices are about the same as most other places.

Unfortunately, the service feels a bit average, staff seem to do the bare minimum. On several occasions I’ve stood at the counter (or witnessed someone else) waiting while staff are busy doing something without an acknowledgement.

The buzzer system makes sense when it’s busy, but it’s odd that they’ll bring your coffee to the table but not your food, even when the café is quiet (only 1 other table) & you’re sitting only a few metres away.

Some of the plates are chipped & I’ve noticed is that there’s never enough cutlery in the table holders, this has been the case on all five of my visits.

There’s nothing exceptionally bad here, but it also wouldn’t take much to lift...

Expensive is an understatement. $26 for a salty, greasy very average cheeseburger and a small serve of curly fries as well as $13.50 for a 400ml Panhead beer on tap which seemed a bit ott. The burger as mentioned was Luke warm, salty and too greasy that I couldn't stomach to finish. My wife got the "special Choctober" hot chocolate, missing one of the ingredients ....not that special coming in at $10....
