Cafe Kaizen — Restaurant in Wellington

9-12-24. Well Guys - we have loved your food for many years but today we were very disappointed. My wife had the Vedge Bake. It was very dry and not enjoyable at all. I chose my favourite Burger and Frys. Frys great but the burger was over cooked - dry and very solid. It was not nice at all. We watched the burger being cooked and the chef!! Placed a pan lid over the burger while it cooked underneith. Doing this stews the meat and makes it very dense. Even if the best mince had been used this method of cooking would ruin the meat. The Brioche bun was light and fluffy consistancy but the outside of the bun lid was very greasy and made the burger very messy to pick up. I would not order the burger again and that's a shame. I have raved about Kaizen and the food here but feel I can no longer recommend it to my friends. Coffee was ok but served way to hot. Coffee should be served at 68 to 70 degrees to be enjoyable not boiling and too hot to drink. You dont need to boil the coffee beans to brew a great coffee. Come on guys - put the love back in your business like...

Taste of the food was good, the waiting staff who actually delivered the food and drinks were pleasant to deal with.

The major disappointment was the service we received from the lady actually took our order at the counter who was not pleasant at all and made my partner and I feel like we were a hindrance to serve.

The same lady who took the order mistakenly came to our table to deliver hot food. All we heard was her muttering complaints under her breath. When we informed her the order was not ours she just turned and literally yelled to her colleagues which table number the food was meant to go too.

If she was having a bad day that is one thing - no need to bring the mood of paying customers...

This cafe has the friendliest staff which are always fantastic in everything they do. The coffees, teas or infusions are always delicious and their wide variety of cakes, cookies and slices are incredibly tasty and to top it off, the service is incredible with the food and drinks never taking too long and always served with a smile. The views from the window look out at the Japanese garden which is beautiful year round but especially in the spring when everything is flowering in pinks and whites. As well as sweet goods there are also savory dishes for lunch, both cold and hot which provides a great place to drop by for a bite to eat when running...
