Read moreWhat a great pub! This is what I would call a classic Irish style pub. Great beers and ciders on tap. Murphy's really reminds me of the pubs we went to in Ireland. From the decor to the pool table (or it may have been Snooker?) to the Guinness on tap, it really brought back memories of the Irish pubs we went to. The crowd was a mix of young and old and the music was great. I do wish the music was live which would have made it an even better experience. I'm not from Wellington so I don't know if they do have live music here but the music was at a perfect level, you could hear it but didn't have to yell to talk to your friends. It did seem that the older crowd was inside while the younger people sat outside. I was there with a family friend from back home (I'm an expat) so we wanted to talk and catch up. He chose Murphy's as he said it was his favorite pub on Cuba street. We had such a great time.
The service was perfect and the on tap cider I had wasn't too sweet. The Guinness was also perfect. Overall we had a great experience here and I highly recommend J J Murphy & Co. If you like UK style pubs this is the...
Read moreHaving that long haired Harry Potter looking French guy with the John Lennon glasses behind the bar is one way to lose business from regular. Been a local at JJs for a while now come in on average once a week. My IDs been checked at this establishment multiple times before, usually at the door. Forgot my id at home this particular instance since I didn’t bring it to work that day. Get let in the door bc I’m here pretty often proceed to purchase a jug off a bartender. He got another staff member to pour it (French Harry Potter looking guy with long hair) this guy brings it over and proceeds to ask for my ID once again I’ve already paid. I get kicked out for not having it, even though I had already been served. I’ve been going to JJs for years now, I’m a fully grown man with beard and all. I do not look underage at all. This has never ever happened to me before or at any other establishment. I felt embarrassed and ripped off. I understand no ID no service. Why serve me before checking my ID??? Its supposed to be the other way around I had already paid as well. Very frustrating for someone who comes...
