Very disappointed and shocked at how filthy the room was. We checked into Room Number 201. This should have been set up for 4 adults (2 x separate couples) in a 2 bedroom apartment with a harbour view.
Upon entering the room we were astounded that at a time when Covid-19 is still prevalent and hygiene should be at the forefront of everyone's mind we immediately noted the following:
the floor was filthy the bench top had not been cleaned the phone was grimy the walls were dirty with paint peeling light switches grimy the cooktop was filthy the switches to the oven and cooktop were filthy there weren't any curtain sheers in the 2nd bedroom insufficient towels (only 2) - set up for 2 no mattress protector on the bed dust and mould on the walls next to the bed broken fridge TV missing from bedroom, holes in the wall missing towel rail from bathroom dirty and mouldy carpets only 2 chairs in dining area blackout curtains falling off rails dirty skirting boards by entrance door and mould mould around windows no hangers in wardrobe ceiling and wall panels in the bathroom falling down
We could continue to list many more issues. This room is definitely not fit for purpose and should be condemned and reported to Environmental Health.
We are Accor Members and well travelled. This is the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in and I am sure that if Accor knew of these issues, this accommodation would be shut down.
I have attached a few photos for your information.
The receptionist was amazing and fully understood the issues. She was shown the photos and could not believe how dirty this room has become. She was not able to offer any alternative as the place was full. Fortunately for us we were leaving early the following morning.
The receptionist provided us with a bottle of spray and wipe, a face cloth and tea towel to clean up the worst areas. She also provided us with a double duvet to use as a mattress protector and 2 additional towels.
The car park is too small to fit a large suv, which is what we hired and we were not warned that our car would not fit. We then became stuck and the receptionist tried to assist by getting other guests to move their cars so we could get out of the car park. We then moved our car to...
Read moreNot at all up to Accor standards||I am generally not a person to complain unless it is necessary, and after our stay at the Mercure Wellington Central City Hotel & Apartments|I feel the need to complain. We stayed for eight nights, and if I could have moved us, I would have but there was not availability in town close enough to the conference my husband was attending. ||I am a Dimond member and an Accor Plus member and this was not recognized at all throughout the stay.||Cleanliness of Room|The room was in a poor condition, paint chips dirty marks and scruff marks on walls in the room and in the hallway. We found a bottle top on the floor in our room and it was still there when we left. It was under a glass table so not hard to miss. The windows were dirty, no air conditioning and no extractor fan in the bathroom, we had to open the window which made the bathroom very cold. The chairs at the table were dirty and stained, I would not sit on them. Kitchen had dirty marks everywhere.||Elevators|One elevator was out of order and then we were told the other elevator would be out of order from 10pm to 7am on the Sunday and Monday evening. This meant we had to change our plans for the Sunday evening or walk up 14 flights of stairs. The noise during the night when the elevator was being worked on made it difficult to sleep.||Parking|This was a five minute walk from the hotel, while in general I don’t have an issue with this what I do have an issue with was feeling unsafe when entering the car park and the smell and sticky floor in the elevator each time we went in.||Breakfast|Breakfast was included in our room, and if it was not, I certainly would not have been paying for it. It was located off site at the other Mercure hotel a block away and was very average at best. We ate on the Sunday morning at around 8.30am and seemed to be only a couple of tables eating at that time. Food was cold, eggs over cooked. Chef came out to check the buffet and it looked like he just rolled out of bed, was very untied and dirty looking.||Staff|We cam down from our room several times to find staff gossiping loudly at the front desk and eating dinner. Not a good...

Highlight - probably the best view across the harbour and city from any building in Wellington (photo only shows a portion of it). But a lot to be improved on..
Tiny shower box Low shower pressure (but good temperature) Also low shower head (heightwise) Ridiculously big bowl sink in bathroom leaves barely any bench space for personal items Tap for bathroom sink is on the bench, not over the sink, so you drip water all over the bench & your things every time you turn the tap off with wet hands Heater and 2 lights in bathroom not working - reported and apparently fixed while I was there but one light only intermittently and the heater was never fixed No extractor fan in bathroom Not enough rails or hooks across bathroom & kitchen to hang towels (none in kitchen, one hook in bathroom and rails above toilet if you want to hang your towels above the toilet) No kitchen cloth or sponge, just a tea towel Tap in kitchen wobbly Kitchen items in open cupboards Microwave overdue for safety inspection (not something I would normally take notice of, but if you're going to display the sticker in a prominent place make sure it's up to date) Uneven mattress No dresser or anything in bedroom to put personal items in/on 2 TVs but neither with the ability to screencast I thought there was a laundry behind the bedroom as I kept hearing what sounded like dryers running. Turns out you can actually hear the lifts every time they run, even though they're not directly against the room
When connecting to W-Fi there was no network called 'Mercure' anything, I had to call the front desk to ask what the network name was and they took 10 minutes to answer the phone
Even little things like when you exit the lift there are no signs in front of you to direct you to your room, and in the lift itself the swipe card panel is so low down, I was pushing 16 for ages like is the lift broken? Then down below there's an access panel and a sign next to the panel saying to swipe card. At least put the 'swipe card' sign at eye level???
Many poor design choices and overall...
